Hey, this is Devin. I was just browsing journals and I saw this entry. I always used to wonder why "how are you" became such a customary greeting used with people too. However, I don't think people are trying to be fake, it's just used in a different context than we're used to. One use of the phrase is a simple greeting, not meant for an actual repsonse while the other "how are you" is used between people that are closer to each other and expect a real anwser. But yeah, that used to bother me too.
