I definitely just upgraded to a paid account so I could upload two new icons. Yes, I'm just that narcissistic. But! Now I can do fun things like drunk-dial LJ again! It's been so long...

Oh, and a picture post about my weekend in Champaign is forthcoming, I promise.

Hmmm... it's strange: when I met you, the first words out of my mouth were "you look just like your pictures." And now, my first words were "Wow, he doesn't look anything like that."

I think this probably has less to do with your skill as a photographer, and more to do with the way I am slowly interpollating your image into my consciousness. I find it strange how we (culturally) accept photographs as representing reality, or at least a two-dimentional approximation of the same. And in a certain way, it's true: an (unmodified) photograph is an exact replica of a visual moment in time. But in another way, it's a complete lie, because it creates this impression of completeness unto itself, which there can never really be. Like a quotation.

I'd have to reread Signature Event Context to wax more intelligently on the subject.

probably not the response you were looking for, eh? Okay, how about this:

OMG u r so fucking hotttt.

Whatever. You know I'm hot shit and you love me for it, whether you can parse that with my ability to have stimulating conversations or not. :-P

Okay, that was completely egotistical of me to say, which is not how I percieve that I sound at all. I suppose that means I shouldn't be taken that seriously.

The interesting thing is that I really do look like that just like I look like the myriad other user pics I have. I look like a good number of things, but all are - as you say - mere replicas of a specific moment in time.

I've not read "Signature Event Context" but it sounds fascinating.

Of course I can parse them together! Boy, if no one were allowed to be both cute and smart, we'd all have to go kill ourselves.

And lucky for you, egotism is charming only in the exceptionally smart and cute. So you're covered.

Signature Event Context is indeed fascinating, though brutal. I wish I had my library here so I could take your education in hand. ;) I know that sounds terribly patronizing, but it's really a huge compliment. You remind me of myself, you see (hugest compliment eva!), so I want you to be exposed to all the things I found inspiring three years ago.

oh-em-gee. yew arrr so hawt.

I miss my paid account. I can't use seven of my spiffy icons that distinguish between calm, irritated, super irritated, ticked off, pissed off, wrathful, apocalyptic and the (very) occassional horny. Hrumph.

I think my world just fragmented into at least a dozen pieces. You're telling me you actually have a horny icon?! The others I can easily see, but horny? Wow. I might fund your paid account just to see you use it now and again.

Ditto, I'll go halvsies!

Oh, and meeester smeeeeth... I refuse to a) repeat things I've already said and b) fall in with the crowd to say how damn cute we... er, I mean you are. So there, I'm not sayin' how hotttt!111 u r. I'm certainly not saying it a second time either.
