The last two are just over $30 each on Amazon and the first one is only a couple dollars for a good used copy. Maybe she could use some of her babysitting money??? The first 35 pages of the Alice Walker is on Google online. But being able to write in the books is very helpful, so I would suggest she buy them if she can do it at all. :)

I've done okay even using a one-season old textbook. Butterfly: I assume you've applied for all possible financial aid, no? Some of them cover supplies specifically.

I don't have those myself, but I *highly* recommend http://www.bigwords.com when it comes to finding used textbooks on a small budget. I've used it for many semesters.
