A lovely chapter - nice learning Gerulf's background, how a lifetime of earning repect is still shadowed by the nature of his birth. The very correct manner, but caring of Adara and Mihai; how he grows, I like watching him open his eyes to Gerulf and to seeing beyond his sheltered away restraints.
I had a feeling about the general so was chuffed to find out I was correct :)
Also really want to see Mihai at the Banded Cat *grin* does that make me bad? *giggle*

Well it does seem a bit neat -he was safely dead before they decided to tell Mihai- then why tell him? there's nothing to be gained from it, if they wanted to hurt him they could say his father was disgusted by him

Terrific update. Gerulf's innate sense of honour and decency shines through for all to see, irrespective of his birth, and I'm sure he would've gone far in the army but for the accident. Hopefully, Mihai will be his reward. *adores Gerulf*
As for Mihai's father, I don't think it was Andel - too easy. I'm also dubious about the apparent reason the Maester wears that mask. For one crazy moment I even theorised that the Maester was the king in disguise, wanting to see how his sons carried on before he decided who to leave the kingdom too. I love a good mystery.

Wonderful chapter! It was definitely worth the wait. Gerulf is just so GOOD especially when it comes to Mihai; makes me envious that I don't have someone like that of my own. :D Also shocked to hear about the Ropeman although I was wondering who Gerulf's father was. But I agree with lusiology, it seems just too easy for General Andel to be Mihai's father. I certainly was banking on the Maester....Maybe the Maester is General Andel in hiding then? It seems plausible to me... Great update though, I'm really looking forward to the next chapters of Blue Prince and your Sherlock fic!

The Ropeman is one of the first things I came up with about the story, and it made so much sense for Gerulf's character. He could so easily be just dumb muscle or use his strength for cruelty or power, but he has quite strong morals and I needded a good reason for that. He doesn't want to be like his 'father'.

Aww, Vahan's just pissed because the things happening are quite beyond his control and he refuses to accept it, is at least my interpretation. I think that was quite a nice reaction, even if it was kind of mean to poor ol' Gerulf.
I also love just how Mihai and Gerulf were at the end. It was a very short scene, yes, but it's adorable how they interact quite comfortably with each other like this. So cute!
