I agree that she should divorce him, and hold him accountable.

I wish that would happen to every politician, Republican or Democrat, who cheated on his / her spouse, and then used the spouse as a prop to get back in the voters' good graces.

"Cheated", btw, is a key word here. They want to be poly, that's fine. "Screwing around behind her back, without her permission" is cheating, not "poly".

"Used as a prop" is also key. That's making them pay for your mistake. Don't drag her (or him) up on the stage, or in front of the press, to give you cover. You screwed without her, you can win, or lose, without her.

OTOH, I also blame the voters. This kind of thing (esp. the "use spouse as a prop") should be an ultimate deal breaker. There's always another election, where you can throw out the jerk you voted in to get rid of the cheating jerk.

If their word to their spouse means nothing, so do their words to you.
