Sometimes, when you're juggling a lot of things, one of them needs to be on the back burner for a while before you take it up again. This sounds like an excellent lesson, in so many ways - so YAY.

Thank you! We're stalled again--major life stress--but we keep on as we can. Little bits every day, even if it's just shedding out. Or a time for a hug.

That sounds good--a few minutes of horse work is a nice brain break from writing!

Even if I'm too stressed for work per se, a little grooming or a hug can make a big difference.

Did you try it? I've been too stressed or sometimes weathered out, but have at least been making a point of slowing down and being with.

I went back to some ground work with Lace this week, for reasons sort of similar to yours. She was being her usual calm self, but not paying attention at all, just going through the motions. Finally I demanded, with a hand slap or two to her chest, that she back up -fast- RIGHT NOW. After which she lowered her head, ears pricked and "whooshed" a snort out of her nose. I swear she said "you are mean"!! But then she paid attention the rest of that day and the next. My two short rides in our California sunshine, were wonderful.
