The feeling of forests.
On Wednesday I went back to my favourite place in the Marysville state forest for the first time since the fire. The start of the journey was intensely painful and rage inducing. Physicality of breast feeding.
Note: I wrote this entry when Callum was 5 weeks old (July 11th). Its tempting to change it, make it less negative, but I wrote it as a record of my thoughts at the time. I was observing an experience, one I could never compare to any other in my life and one I would not swap for the world.

Re-opened
The Lolly Shop re-opened yesterday!
Parent is no longer a co-owner of the shop, but her friend Jules has worked hard to get a container dumped on the garden of the shop site and has been packing lollies in the living room of her temporary accommodation in taggerty. The town is rebuilding, the temporary village is good, if somewhat muddy and the regrowth of town and forest is good to watch. It can be exhausting spending a weekend there, but its satisfying none the less.

Donations doing good
We discovered this week that Parent is eligible for a $5000 grant from the Red Cross, so if you've wondered where your donations have gone, there is one answer. Another is that they are keeping a good amount aside for community projects for when there is a community to project again ( Read more... ) -
Being a normal human?
Parent got her replacement drivers license, and credit cards today, and she was joking about being a normal human again and being linked into the world again. It made me laugh but also made me wonder what links us into the normal networks of our society. Especially given that ID, and similar requirements have been waived over and over again in the ( Read more... ) -

Still in Alex
Parent is still in Alexandria, but has called a couple of times and is sounding ok. In fact she called this morning to say she wouldn't get down to the city until late today and was telling me to go to work! -
Fed, watered and safe in Alexandria
Just had a long chat with Parent and she has had an awful experience, but is sounding ok. They are at the red cross centre in Alex and are being billeted in the town until it's safe to drive down. That may take some time as the whole area is afire.
I'm much relieved, and am considering getting some sleep.
