The writing is very good, which used to be a “given” in books. Now good writing is something extraordinary that has to be mentioned.

I haven't read this book, but I have come across it, but I can't off-hand remember where or how.

I don't really think it's my kind of book, but from what you say I can see why you found it to be a very good book - so good it's in your top ten (if not five) books of the year.

You probably saw it in your amazon “deals” at some point. It’s not the kind of plot I usually go for, but I can’t help but be impressed by good writing, especially after reading so many poorly written samples this month.
