You know, I really need to see this movie. lol I don't know how I was born in the 80's and grew up without seeing it, but there ya go. I'm gonna put it on my to watch list and then come back to watch the vid properly! lol ;D
Wait, you seriously seriously haven't seen it? Seriously? I haven't either till last December, but I grew up on the other side of the Iron Curtain! And I've been assured that all American teenagers have watched it. Dang, there goes my theory about unlimited supply of audience for this vid :P
LOL. Trust me, I'm the exception. Just about every other American teenager HAS seen it. LOL I've had people going...WHAT!?? YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT!?? for years now. This was just the final push I need to take the time to watch it. lol ;D
Good, 'cause else I'd have to PM you every hour with 'WHAT!?? YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT!??' until you finally did :P It's just not decent you've missed out on the part of American Experience that even I've been subjected to.
Why hallo thar. This is about 400% more shiny than it was last time. Especially from :30 to 1:00 or so, all the lyrics match up extremely well in relevance - before I was able to make that very big General Theme connection between song/film, but not so consistently from line to line, and yeah. Totally working.
And slightly random, but I really love that jump cut at 1:30. Like, a lot. As well as the rest of those quick three beat accents. And general cutting punchiness.
And yes, I'm pretty sure The Breakfast Club is part of the American Experience. ^_^ Even if you hadn't seen it at the time (I'm too young too), or not seen a tape at some point, it shows periodically on tv.
Thank you! You know you have yourself to blame for the jump cuts and the little bits of intercutting - it's you style rubbing off on me :) And I'm glad it's more coherent and comprehensible this time round, while still hopefully retaining it's bouncyness.
Ha, this is one of the precious few parts of the American Experience I'm happy to be exposed to then :)
Oh you do have a distinctive style - it doesn't have to be a conscious thing, maybe it's something you're just born with. But you're definitely my intercuts muse :)
It's not that I don't respect the American Experience, I'm just happy not to be a part of it most of the time (and besides I somehow think of you as more Canadian than American;).
yay, the true tBC fans start coming! now we can gang up on the unfortunate people who haven't seen it and make them watch it for their own good! Glad you liked the song choice and the meta behind it.
Wonderful vid. I love the series you made of the shoes, the dancing and the running. The song is a great fit. You just filled me with nostalgia! I must have watched that movie a zillion times.
Thank you. The shoe shots were some of the most distinctive tBC shots - I guess Hughes was trying to spice it up a little, since there wasn't all that much he could do in terms of camera work on those sets. Glad you enjoyed those parts and my song choice :)
EEEEEE. YOU POSTEDED IT. AND BOTH ECARRIE AND 0MINDTHEGAP0 WERE ALSO BETAS.
AAAAAH. WE CAN BE ONE BIG HAPPIEH FAMILY NOAW? Y/Y?
Also love the graphic you added. I was thinking of doing that myself, but I got lazy with my last posts. I almost didn't have graphics, but I thought it just wouldn't be right without.
Awesome vid, of course. One of my favorites of yours. For realz. I think I say that everytime you come out with a new vid, but it's impossible for me NOT to. This one is definitely a new high bar for you, just because it is impossibly subtle and just so nicely crafted. You do well with small contained things like this and "Off", so, so much. You make me jealous in that way. (You're also good with the larger idea vids too, but I don't know. You just have a way of tying up these "smaller" vids so well and adding new layers to it that I wouldn't expect.)
These smaller vids are my comfort zone - with limited source I can concentrate on interpreting the hell out of the song and layering in all the meanings I possibly could (which is probably why I end up overstuffing them with overlays, but note how overlay-free I was this time! It was a conscious detox;). I probably should do another Powrót-like type of vid to push myself, but for now I'm happy to be just vidding in my little obscure corner. And boo, I just realised youtube pulled "Off" off! Tegan and Sara, how could you?
The graphics are what all cool kids are doing, so I thought I'd give it a try. It's fun!
And dear brain-twin, of course we are one big happieh vidding family! Only some of its members don't know that yet. We're like a venesuelan soap opera in that respect - or Star Wars! or LotS!

You know, I was offended out of principle by this for all of ten seconds, but then remembered that yeah, you're kind of right. : /

But hey, no-one lost any limbs or essential bodyparts, so it was all in good fun.
(No. I won't shut up about it anytime soon. CRACK.)
