ok i think that i would've rather not read that copyright page because it kind of ruins it. Like you know how when you're watching a movie or something and the hero saves the girl and all that good stuff and u absolutely love the movie, but then somebody reminds you that it would never happen and it kind of sucks the fun out of it for you? but ( Read more... )

I agree it kills it. It takes the fun out of the book. He should leave it open and not mention anything about the book being fiction, then it would be up to your imagination.

I see what you mean anonymous December 30 2004, 04:07:51 UTC
Yeah, I see what you mean. Like when your watching a movie, and then you remember that the two people in love are just actors, like maybe they dont even like eachother at all and are just acting. Like they are just getting paid to act. It makes me think that the novel is just being written so the author can get paid. It isn't real. How do we know all that stuff happened to him or his friends? How do we even know how long he was in the war. Maybe he didn't even stay long. Maybe he didn't do much at all. The book just doesn't have that intensity or whatever when it is not real.

Hey Kimberly "jo"!!!!!!!!!! I like your analogy except what if it really did happen!!!!!!! But i do agree that maybe some of this could have happened but i think it's more so what O'Brien imagined would have happened. But I also agree that it sucks the fun out of the book and it ruins the book by knowing it isn't true!!!!! Anyways.....that's all i have to say for now so Happy New Year!!!!!!!Later Days

I totally agree with you on this one kim. take for example the movie "before sunset" which i just watched today : )!! its such an awesome love story but you know it could never really happen and then u get a lil upset. however, i dont know if i had such a strong reaction to the book.

all for now, have a fantastic new year!
