“Okay Eunhyuk, you’re a big boy now.” Sooyoung patted his red pinky as she took away the ice pack, “go along now…” She pushed him out of the room and ushered her towards the kids by the blocks corner.
Eunhyuk turned back and grabbed Sooyoung’s pants. “Where’s Donghae?” He buried his face against her thigh and tugged on the pants
“Sweetie, Donghae is out on a walk with Yuri. Go play with Heechul and Kangin, look they’re building ships with the Lego blocks.” Sooyoung patted his head as he held closer. “Eunhyuk I have to go fix the snack, can you be a big boy for me?”
Eunhyuk nodded as he reluctantly let go of Sooyoung. He looked at the large playroom, which suddenly seemed much better then it used to be. Eunhyuk choked down his sobs as he walked over to the two bigger boys. His muddied green sneakers treaded across the dark carpet as he gulped. He never really played with Kangin and Heechul if Donghae or Sungmin wasn’t with him. Kangin was smashing the blocks together, shouting and screaming while the blocks collided and created a racket.
Heechul caught Eunhyuk walking over to them and smirked when the boy was within an arm length away.
“Eunhyuk you are such a crybaby. You can’t play with us.” Heechul pushed him to the floor as Kangin laughed, dropping the blocks as he threw his head back roaring with laughter.
“Yeah we don’t let crybabies play with us. We are old boys now.” Kangin added in between gasps of laughter.
Eunhyuk landed on the carpet with a loud thud as he hands scraped against the carpet, the wound on his pinky, which was barely even a scratch, made contact with the hard surface.
Eunhyuk’s lips trembled as he began crying again. His eyes brimmed with tears as he let out an earth shattering wail as his pinky hurted with pain.
“See you’re crying again.” Heechul shook his head as his hair flicked with the movement. Eunhyuk held his pinky as he sobbed harder.
“Why do you cry so much? Are you a girl?” Kangin laughed as Heechul raised an eye brow at him. “What, only girls cry…”
Eunhyuk’s stomach lurched after hearing Kangin’s comment. He wasn’t a girl. He just liked crying. He told himself to stop crying but he only cried harder and harder, feeling misunderstood and alone. None of the other boys cried as much as he did… but it wasn’t his fault.
Sooyoung walked into the room and swept him up into her arms, her soft hands patting his back while she walked into the kitchen. She held a kernel of popcorn in front of Eunhyuk, waving it at him before he reached forward and took it into his mouth, the buttery and salty taste soothing his cries.
“Want another one?” Sooyoung put him on the counter and gave him two more popcorn while the machine kept popping as fresh kernels landed inside the silver bowl. Eunhyuk bobbed his head up and down and took the snack in his fingers.
He munched on it happily while Sooyoung smiled at him and gave him a handful. Kangin threw the Lego angrily in the box while Eunhyuk smiled happily with the snack.
“Maybe I should pretend to cry if I can get snack.” Kangin kicked the turtle shaped Lego pond.
“He wasn’t pretending you dumb dumb.” Heechul punched him on the arm. Kangin scowled and rubbed his arm.
