Leeteuk let out another high pitched burst of laughter after Heechul talked about what had happened on the filming set. Donghae crashed into himself, holding onto his stomach for dear life as he literally fell onto the ground. Shindong spat out the carrot he was chewing, the orange bits scattering over the carpet, layering it like a blanket of orange snow. Hankyung clasped his hand over his mouth, restraining all he could as he sporadically let out quick bursts of short lived laughter.
That was their Heechul. The nonchalant and carefree person, albeit petty with food, who never really played by the rules.
That was their Heechul. The chatty and talkative person, although occasionally moody, who always made his presence on stage.
That was their Heechul. Successful, popular, well known.
The night wound down as they all got tired of laughing at Heechul’s adventures in the studio, their energy diminishing as sleep took its toll on the overworked members. Donghae was already half asleep when Hankyung half dragged the youngest man into his bed. Shindong cleaned up his mess before he went back to his room, snores radiating from his room almost instantly, leaving the two oldest members alone in the living room.
“I’m gonna go get Heebum, I’ll be back later.” Heechul pranced up and disappeared from sight.
Leeteuk got up from the empty sofa and went into his room, his mind plagued with thoughts as he gently swung the door.
“Yo where did you go?” Heechul pushed open the door without even knocking as he held Heebum in his hands, “I thought I said I would be back later.”
Leeteuk didn’t bothering responding as his heart flushed towards his gut. He just wasn’t as good as Heechul.
“Leeteuk…” Heechul snuggled his nose with Heebum’s nose as he laughed before hugging his cat.
Leeteuk sat on his bed, solemn and silent after a night of unrestricted laughter. He could already imagine Eunhyuk grumbling about how much noise they made and Kyuhyun complaining that Leeteuk needed to change his way of laughing.
“God are you emo over something again?” Heechul scratched behind Heebum’s ear as the cat purred in his lap.
Leeteuk tried talking back, countering his statement and defending himself. Except the other man was right. The words lumped together at his throat before he could even get them out, clogging his throat as he choked lightly.
“Yah you.” Heechul let Heebum onto the floor and nudged the cat lightly with his foot. A second later he was beside Leeteuk on the bed as they looked at each other in close proximity. “What’s your problem?”
“Did you ever think of being the leader?” Leeteuk choked out suddenly. Heechul actually looked surprise for a moment before his actor persona pulled his features back into a neutral alignment.
“Excuse me?” Heechul asked again, his face puzzled and confused.
“Do you not speak Korean? Did you ever think of being the leader?” Leetuek snapped before he buried himself in his arms.
“So that’s why you’re so ughh right now.” Heechul sighed and picked up a pillow, “Damnit why are all of you guys so fucking stupid. You guys just don’t get it, do you…”
“What?”
“You and Hannie… god damnit both of you. Dense as a rock.” Heechul punched the pillow repeatedly. Obviously Hankyung had done something unintentionally to piss off their Heechul.
A minute passed, or was it two. It could have been five.
“You know why I’m so popular, aside from my charming good looks, that is.” Heechul chirped. Leeteuk gagged when Heechul praised himself. A key to getting Heechul happy was just to state how pretty he was, he’ll start his own monologue and carry the conversation until you force him to shut up.
Heechul closed his mouth before opening it again, “It’s because I have a good leader to take care of me, to make sure things are right, to guide me in the right direction.”
Leeteuk froze as the words refused to sink in. Heechul was just being polite and offered superficial words of support.
“If I didn’t have you behind me, I don’t think I can MC, or film dramas, or be a DJ. But because I have you with me, I am free to do whatever I want freely.” Heechul smiled, a genuine smile and not one of his smirks that made you want to slap him on the face. Leeteuk had seen the latter way too often. “Without you holding us together, I don’t know what we would be doing, where we would be… yeah…”
Leeteuk just smiled softly, his eyes brimming with joy rather than sorrow, as Heechul pulled him into a warm hug. Heebum jumped in between them and rubbed his head against Leeteuk’s shin.
“You know I never get mushy about things like this right?” Heechul coughed as he tried covering his trembling voice, “I hope you’re happy.”
“You’re crying?” Leeteuk pushed him away and saw Heechul crying.
“Yes and it’s because of you.” Heechul sniffed and wiped the corner of his eye. “God, I hate you sometimes.”
“And I thought I was the emotional one out of the two of us.” Leeteuk picked up Heebum and tossed him into the air, catching him swiftly in his hands.
