Kyuhyun didn’t even know how much time passed as he sat with Jongwoon, the man coughing abruptly and moaning soft, incoherent words. His room was dark and cozy after the curtains had been draped; the thick, black fabric with white lines running across it like a tennis racquet blocking out the sunlight from the windows.
His room was simple, a few posters casually plastered onto the wall, a simple desk with a desktop computer, writing implements, typical things of the sort. On the corner of a desk was a large Yoshi doll with a pair of identical turtle stuffed animals resting in its embrace.
Zzzzt zzzzzt zzzzzzzzt.
If Kyuhyun’s phone did not ring, he would have stayed there until the man woke up, or gone out to buy him some congee or the like.
Zzzzt zzzzzzt zzzzzzzzt.
Kyuhyun hesistantly removed his hand from Jongwoon’s fever induced forehead as he picked up his phone. He shifted awkwardly on his chair as he managed to squeeze it out of his tight jeans.
Lee Sungmin <3
It was Saturday, and quite frankly he had forgotten about his promise to her about spending the day with her. Kyuhyun had familiarized himself with the apartment, and one quick glance at the clock to his right, it was 1pm.
“Hello?” Kyuhyun whispered softly into the phone while he headed out the door. He casted a glance behind his shoulder as Jongwoon turned around, his brows furrowed as he struggled even in his sleep.
“KYUHYUNNN ahhh.” Sungmin chirped happily into his ear. Her outburst of excitement came off as fake and annoying, especially if he compared Jongwoon with her. “Where are we going todayyy?”
Kyuhyun sighed. “I’ll pick you up in an hour, sound good?”
“Yep. I’ll be waiting!!” He heard Sungmin jump up and down on her mattress, the creaking of the springs making a hideous, skin-shriveling sound.
“Wear something comfortable and warm, okay?” Kyuhyun said lightheartedly. “I don’t want you getting a cold.” He took another glance at Jongwoon, who had kicked away his quilt, his limbs positioned at awkward angles, extraneous signs of his struggle.
“I love you KyuKyu.”
“Yeah, me too. I’ll see you in a little bit.” Kyuhyun hung up the phone and looked at the vulnerable man. Like a butterfly landing on a tree branch, Kyuhyun gently covered the man with the quilt.
“Youngwoon-ah…” Jongwoon stirred in his sleep as he grasped onto his sleeve. “Don’t leave me, Youngwoon ah…”
Kyuhyun gently took his hand off of him and placed it back under the quilt as the man rolled over onto his side. Kyuhyun took no interest in his client’s personal life, but sometimes when people went too far, Kyuhyun could not help but feel an obligation to lend a helping hand.
Because if everyone in the world was lenient and willing to lend a hand to someone in need, society would not be in its current state. More people would be happy with jobs, a warm house and a supportive family. Eradication of corruption and poverty were unrealistic, but a simple favor could leave everyone better off.
Maybe Kyuhyun should help this man break through the chains pinning him down, because he did not deserve this punishment. He ran a hand through his long hair as he relished the silky feeling, albeit it was somewhat damp from sweat. He did not deserve to endure this pain anymore.
He closed the door and walked back outside into the living room.
“Hello? Ryeowook-sshi?” Kyuhyun spoke into the home phone.
“Yes, I’m one of his old friends and I just came to visit him. No no, calm down.”
“Yes, he’s okay, except I need to go and I don’t want to leave him unattended.”
“Okay great, I guess I’ll see you in a little bit.”
Twenty minutes later, Ryeowook had gently tapped on the door as Kyuhyun let him in.
“Yesung, where is he?” His face was flustered and his hair had not been completely dried yet.
“Yesung?” Kyuhyun arched an eyebrow at him.
“Yesung, Jongwoon, same thing.” Ryeowook heaved a pant.
“Yes, he’s okay, but I got to go. He just has a mild fever, it’s no big deal really.”
“Thank you so much for taking care of him, err…”
“Kyuhyun, Cho Kyuhyun.” Kyuhyun offered him and a hand and the two shook hands. For some reason, being with this Ryeowook and Jongwoon made him feel at ease, where he could actually relax and not have to put up his guard. He could actually be real and genuine, feelings he had yet to savor after working a life as a ‘collector’.
“I got to go now.” Kyuhyun smiled weakly. “I guess we might see each other again?”
“Yes, for sure. Take care!!” Ryeowook ushered him out the door, unaware that he had his own set of keys.
Kyuhyun had hoped that Ryeowook meant was genuine with his words.

Heechul sat alone in his office as he flipped through his photo album. Every picture he had with him made his heart lurch out with pain. His fingers glazed over the picture, stroking their smiling faces behind the protective plastic.
Had he made the wrong decision?
His right index finger traced his smiling lips as he began to cry.
Maybe he did make the wrong decision. But sometimes one has to prioritize, and as much as he loved the man, his love for his sister and himself was always a sliver above him.
Maybe that’s why things are where they are right now. As much as he wanted to, he could never put the other man first.
Heechul closed the photo album and tucked it underneath a pile of documents in his drawer as he locked it away. Except the feelings for him will never be locked away; it hurt him so much when the talks between the two were materialistic and business in attire.

“Well, here we are.” Kyuhyun took off her blindfold as she let out a squeal.
“The AMUSEMENT PARK?!!?!” Sungmin gave her boyfriend a tight hug.
“Come on.” Kyuhyun said cheerfully as he tugged at her hand while he locked the car.
A dark figure dressed in a black overcoat stepped aside as he continued observing the two from afar.
“Sungmin, wait.” Kyuhyun abruptly stopped before Sungmin had entered the lineup.
“What is it?” She smiled sweetly as she held onto her one of her casual bags. She had on a dark purple vest with a black, oversized hoddie. Instead of her usual heels or flats, she slipped on a pair of light pink runners.
“Do you think, I can…” Kyuhyun suddenly found it hard to talk with her. “Borrow $200,000?”
“No.” Sungmin rejected him immediately. She walked over to him and clasped their hands together. “But I can give you $200,000. Come on, I want you to win me one of those bunny dolls.”
Kyuhyun hugged her tightly, his hand wrapping around her neck as he thanked her from the bottom of his heart.
“Boss?” Another figure whispered into his cell phone concealed in his brown sleeves. “There seems to be a problem.”
