Donghae/Sungmin | Romance/Angst |
PG | 579 words
Understanding is one aspect, listening is another, but being able to overcome is the most important
“I lied to you, people lie, suck it up.” Sungmin hissed angrily. Donghae was beginning to annoy him, the way his eyes widened and sparkled when he was about to cry, the way his mouth was open but no words would come out. “I never liked you, you were just to kill time, okay?”
“B-but S-Sungmin,” Donghae was crying, not a surprise whatsoever. He’s always been emotional and expressive with his feelings, heart pinned and exposed on his sleeve, easy and ripe for picking.
“No, nothing, just stop.” Sungmin gritted his teeth, “Why the fuck are you crying, there’s nothing to cry about, Donghae, just st-”
“I heard from Hyukjae,” Donghae wheezed between sobs, “your mother is making you settle down, that’s, that’s why you’re breaking up with me, I know, Min, I know..”
“What are you talking about? What the fuck is Hyukjae talking about?” Sungmin defended, biting back hard on his tongue when Donghae tackled him, arms thrown around tightly around his middle, “Get off me.”
“I knew you’d call me tonight, I knew, I told myself that this was it,” Donghae buried his face against Sungmin’s shoulder, “I can’t, I can’t just let this go.”
“D-Donghae,” Sungmin felt his shoulder getting wet, no doubt from Donghae’s tears, “Donghae, please stop this, you have to let go.”
Donghae made some incoherent noise and Sungmin felt his heart fold on itself.
“I don’t care if you devote everything to her, time, effort, the title as the person behind your back, supporting you through thick and thin,” Donghae pleaded, “I just want to be with you.”
“Hae, why do you put yourself through so much pain, it’s not worth it,” Sungmin put his hands on his arms, coaxing him slowly as he peeled him off, “stop doing this to yourself, I’m not worth it.”
Donghae shook his head, instead only lunging forward to kiss Sungmin on the lips, needy and warm, his arms thrown casually over his shoulders. Sungmin stood still, muscles tense, his hands remained awkwardly at his side.
“Min,” Donghae stopped kissing him when Sungmin didn’t respond, his voice vacant and hollow, “you don’t mean it, right?”
“Donghae, I love you, I really do, which is why you have to stop this,” Sungmin whispered, “I don’t want to see you hurt like this.”
“So what, so you’re just going to throw everything away just because you think this is better for me?” Donghae replied immediately. There was a slight flare of anger in his tone, “so you think that this is what’s going to make me happy, by you leaving me so I can find someone else?”
“No, Hae, I just don’t, I can’t, I...” Sungmin stumbled, faltered. The feelings inside his heart were still there, that Donghae would be the one he would want to spend the rest of his life with, Donghae was the one that made him feel complete, “Donghae...”
“I know, Min, I know...” Donghae kissed him again, softer this time and Sungmin kissed back. Slowly they closed the distance between them until nothing could come between them.
“I won’t mind playing second to everything,” Donghae murmured softly as Sungmin brushed his fingers along his wrist, “as long as I know you’re still here with me.”
“Hae, you’re always going to be the person I love, and I’m sorry,” Sungmin linked their fingers together.
“Good, I wouldn’t have taken any other answer.” Donghae kissed him again, a quick peck on the cheek.
