Sungmin gulped as they waited in line for renting skates. His eyes wandered to the outdoor skating rink as people skated gracefully on the frozen sheet of water, their legs pushing back as the thin metal glided swiftly on the ice.
Sungmin was a man of many talents, as showcased on the many episodes of Star King that he filmed, but ice skating was hardly one of them. Talent was out of the question, Sungmin was handicapped on the ice as he frowned.
“Hyung it’ll be fun.” Kyuhyun smiled brightly as he patted his hyung on the shoulder, noticing his grim expression.
“Kyu… I can’t skate…” Sungmin wailed as they moved further up the line. A small toddler ran around them excitedly as he pointed at Sungmin, who was in the midst of a tantrum.
“Yes you can.” Kyuhyun remarked sarcastically as Sungmin continued his tantrum, stomping his feet on the black rubber and raising his voice. “Worse comes to worse you can use one of those cones.”
Sungmin looked over to the rink and saw a toddler pushing a bright orange cone, using it to balance himself as he pushed playfully on the ice, his eyes remarking at the fact that he was gliding.
“Kyu… I’m actually scared. Can we go home?” Sungmin panicked and began spewing out his words, “I’ll let you go on the computer, and and I won’t bother you.”
“He’ll take a size 8.” Kyuhyun said nicely to the lady as he forced Sungmin out of his pink sneakers. “I need a size 10.”
Sungmin held his skates lifelessly as Kyuhyun half dragged him to the bench.
“Kyu… I’m going to fall.” Sungmin closed his eyes as he heard a small thud followed by faint sobs.
“I won’t let you fall… now put those on.” Kyuhyun tightened his skates as he urged his hyung to put them on.
“Kyuuu…” Sungmin pouted his lips, one of his signature moves that would grant him what he wanted.
Kyuhyun shoved a hand against his face, hitting his chin and wiping the pout of his lips. “You should know by now… that doesn’t work on me anymore. Now put the skates on.”
After minutes of persistent whining and equally persistent skate tying, Sungmin had the skates wrapped snuggly around his ankles as he wobbled his way towards the rink door. Kyuhyun struggled to muffle his giggle as Sungmin nearly fell as he toppled against a pillar.
“Kyu. I don’t know why you’re making your hyung do this.” Sungmin grumbled as Kyuhyun held his shoulders and pushed him forward.
“It’ll be fun. I promise.” Kyuhyun smiled happily as they took a step up and stepped on the ice.
“Oh my Kyu.” Sungmin screeched as his skate made contact with the ice, his left foot immediately slid forward as his hands scrambled for help, his fingers clawing the wall for support.
“Relax hyung. It’s easy.” Kyuhyun stepped on the ice and twirled around him until he was facing Sungmin.
“No it’s not. Just let yourself go.”
“No way, I can’t even stand on this thing.” Sungmin grumbled as his legs went opposite directions as he fumbled with his feet.
“Okay look at me.” Kyuhyun disengaged himself from the wall as he stood on the ice, his arms stretched outwards for balance. “Try standing.”
Sungmin hesitantly removed his hands from the wall as his legs wobbled like jelly, his sheer shaking enough to send his feet flying off in either direction, which was exactly what he did before he scrambled frantically to the wall.
“I can’t do it, this is too hard.” Sungmin wailed as he pounded his hands on the wall.
“And you can pull off some insane magic trick in like 2 nights… please hyung it’s just ice skating.” Kyuhyun grabbed his wrist and held him steady as the older boy looked at him seriously before he let go of his hand on the wall.
“Steady… steady…” Kyuhyun said sternly as he held onto his wrists and slowly guided him farther away from the wall.
“Kyu… no.” Sungmin panicked as his legs gave away to the panic, he began losing his balance as his feet shuffled on the rink, making deep cuts in the ice.
“Hyung… look at me.” Kyuhyun gripped his wrists harder and forced their eyes to meet. “I won’t let you fall.”
“O-Okay…” Sungmin relaxed his feet, his shoulders falling down from their tense position, as they skidded further out onto the rink.
“Push back with your feet and kick forward with your body.” Kyuhyun let go of Sungmin as he demonstrated how to glide with his feet. “You try it.”
Sungmin wobbled on his skates as he tried kicking back with his feet. He ended up rolling backwards because he didn’t propel his body forward to build momentum.
“You have to push your body forward. Like this.” Kyuhyun demonstrated gracefully again as he propelled his body forward, his knees bending as he glided on the ice.
“But you said push back and now its push forward, what do you want.” Sungmin snapped. He threw up his arms in rage before he wobbled and lost his balance.
Kyuhyun grabbed his hand and pulled him up into balance before he fell. “I said I wouldn’t let you fall.”
Kyuhyun held onto his hand and pulled him along the rink as he kept on showing what he meant. Sungmin’s eyes beamed when he felt the warm touch, his rough masculine fingers holding onto his own hand, which was soft and smooth from the hand cream he uses (pink and the scent was rosewater; Kangin always complained about it being too girly and it stunk up the car).
Kyuhyun never let go of his hand as they continued skating on the rink, the magnae surprised at how fast Sungmin was picking up how to skate. After all, Sungmin was a man of many talents.
