We were underground near the entrance to the Louvre, which is a shopping center. For the first time that I had seen, there was an enormous line. It wound past most of the shops, and turned toward the metro. I correctly guessed that this wasn't for the art.

It was the line for the iPad2 release. We were there just before the store opened, so we watched through the window as the employees were clapping, chanting, and getting pepped up before running downstairs. The black cloth was lowered from in front of the door (the top window was unobscured), the doors were opened to cheers and applause of the crowd, and the workers smiled and gave high-fives to the lucky few at the front of the line as they entered the store. I leaned to my wife and remarked "remind me again, what god do we worship?"
