Do any of you have celiac disease (allergic to gluten), or do you know someone who does? Any such information would be handy...

a friend of mine recently figured out that she has problems with gluten. i don't know if it's officially diagnosed as celiac, though.

My aunt and cousin both have celiac disease. I don't know them that well, so I can't tell you too much about their experiences, but I could get my aunt's email address for you if you'd like. She'd be happy to talk about it, and she will definitely have snack food tips if nothing else.

My dad has gluten allergies and meghaan's mom has always been celiac...to an extreme level...like, any wheat is potentially deadly for her. you could talk to us about it. We have both had to live with and cook for parents with wheat allergies.

My mom has celiac; it's known as the "irishman's disease." The celia in your small intestine become easily irritated by glutens, and stop absorbing nutrients altogether.

Stay away from all things with gluten in them for at least 4 weeks. No oats, rye, wheat. No beer, no hard alcohol, pasta, etc. No vinegars except for balsamic. Don't eat anything that touched wheat or any of those above things, either. No fried foods, because they are often fried in oil that hasn't been changed. No kikkoman soy sauce.

You can get tested for this, too. Drink some funky glowy stuff and they watch it pass through your system. Fun stuff.

Let me know if you want to talk.
