Some really nice bits in this chapter. Lots of understated drama, haha.
Come on Ringo! Come on! Have a go at her, LOL! I'm holding on to the hope Ringo's going to sort something out now. He's no reason not to believe Paul - when he finally got around to letting Ringo know he wasn't entertaining Charlie. Yeah, thanks Paul. Like you said, it's not going to be Charlie, so come on Ringo!!
I'm not sure what page Paul's on. He obviously realises there was enough between Ringo and Charlie for him to think he should probably let him know that nothing untoward went on, but at the same time, he still thinks it was John she went to see and John who upset her. I guess, because as you said, Ringo doesn't go around breaking girls hearts. What could Ringo have said or done to move her to tears like that, right? Well, no, Paulie, obviously not right. That was a second surprise for Paul regarding Ringo/Charlie.
Charlie and Wanda - Yep, that was not the right thing to say, was it

Ringo has his confirmation that nothing happened between Charlie and Paul from his mate. And, you'd think that would be exactly what Ringo needed to push him to go after Charlie. Even if it's only for a bit of fun. But, he seems to have given up
( ... )
Ooooh, he'd better not give up!! LOL. Come ON Ringo!!
Paul's not a contradiction - I didn't mean that. Paul is trying to piece together what's going on, but with prejudice and assumptions about Ringo, John and Charlie. Like you said, he's so used to John being his rival, it's taken a while for him to arrive at the fact it's Ringo now. And Ringo's not confrontational like John is. He won't fight, he steps aside.... Or does he?!
I picked up on that line too, btw. I perhaps wasn't clear. Maybe, I should phone her now that she’s gone. But, I guess I’ll have to wait until Ringo’s had a go at her. - right?
Yup, that's the line. But, the now that she's gone reference is directed at our missing Cynthia. And, of course, the her he should phone is Charlie. It's a bit unclear, but it's an insight into what's going on in John's life and why he's in such a mood.
I like the use of Paul and his perceptive ways to frame the first part of this chapter. It really serves as a good way to get the ball rolling and draw the reader in and get curious about things. Even knowing the events of the past story, it makes me at least curious to get into these things further.
Charlie really did say the entirely wrong thing with Wanda there. Wanda's been nice enough to open her house to her friend and all she does is ask for a small contribution of some kind. And Charlie puts herself on this high pedestal that she's above what Wanda and, for that matter, what Annette does, which is have a job to support the dream until it breaks through and starts paying the bills. All Wanda's trying to do is help- because, let's face it, even in 1964 it's helpful to have an in- and Charlie's having none of it. The girl's got a chip on her shoulder a mile wide, and what happened with Ringo- not to mention Stan kicking her out- has made it even bigger.
Paul shrugged and straightened up. “I just thought you’d want to know. I

I thought Paul was going to play a bigger part. It's what I planned for him within the last couple of chapters, but I changed my mind. However, I still do really like this scene. I think he's the closest one out of the four of them in regards to the reader getting as close to the truth of that specific moment as possible. Everyone else is wrapped up in their emotional stuff. Even, our Ringo, he's just better at hiding it.
The only one Charlie has to blame ultimately lies with her. She's really burning bridges, and she needs to be careful or she'll end up alienating the ones who truly do care about her. I want to cut her some slack because she's really going through a lot as of late. But, her attitude toward Wanda who has been a great friend to her was pretty snotty on Charlie's part.
Paul's words to Ringo, a bit over reverse psychology, but also Paul speaking to himself and trying to convince himself that She doesn't matter to you." But, she clearly does if he's investing his time on helping her with her song with everything the
