Milly asked for this: "We all wear a mask, pretend to be someone to the rest of the world, but we never see that everyone else is wearing one as well."
That was such an interesting prompt, and my immediate response was, Oh god, I am so the wrong person to make this. I pretty much collapsed with relief when she didn't hate it.
The piano music underneath the lyrics is sampled from the American Beauty
soundtrack, which I thought was interesting in the context of Dark Angel's "broken world." And yes, that song was hell to vid.
I leaned heavily on Alec for the mask concept, given Joshua's description of him in "The Berrisford Agenda" as someone who presents a carefree, sardonic face to the world while hiding his fear and pain. And of course, Jensen=pretty.
I thought a lot about institutions attempting to erase/replace identities, Logan using Eyes Only as a mask, the struggle to take control of the narrative written by the media, Ames White's ability to blend in, Joshua's inability to blend in ("My art is my face!"), and how Manticore was a cage that Max and the other transgenics never fully left.
Feedback and advice are adored.
