Robin Hood: 1x01 "Will you tolerate this?"

They do tend to overuse slow-mo, don't they?
I must admit, I'm not entirely loving the comic relief man-servant.
It's so very stage-y... half the lines are completely unnatural. It's like soap meets Shakespeare - literally, with half the scenes being naturalistic and half of 'em completely not.

I'm really trying to like this, but it's not completely working. Sadly, Robin's a complete twat, and the humour seems to be falling flat. And a backflap to a lower floor doesn't deserve such a soaring score. Why does he even need to backflip? He could just jump back. So he's backflipping simply because it's dramatic.

The caption-thing is truly appalling. On the other hand, it never fails to make me laugh, so it's kind of okay, I guess.

I really want to punch Robin in the face. Hippy pacifist free-trade smug git.

Newsnight quite liked Keith Allen as the sheriff of Nottingham. They were wrong - he's no Alan Rickman, and he's just kind of weakly nasty for the hell of it. He's just not particularly scary in himself - he's unpleasant and obnoxious and has lots of minions, but he's not villainous or evil.

The caption-thing isn't even funny anymore.

The action is just ludicrous, and not even in a funny way. Robin's mad skillz are so good as to make there seem to be no tension. It's Neo Syndrome - he's just too good. At moments, it almost comes down to "and with one bound they were free!" levels of awfulness.

So, yes, not entirely pleased, and worse, it treats you like we're stupid - YES, WE GET THAT MARIAN SAVED ROBIN WITH HER HAIR CLIP, WE UNDERSTAND. Sheesh.

Still, it was worth all of it for the Torchwood trailer afterwards. Captain Jack, yay!
