Buddhists use mala beads. each bead represents a different mental condition or sinful desire that must be overcome to reach nirvana. monks have usually 108 beads on their strand while normal laypersons average 30 to 40. you're supposed to recount them and recite a brief prayer (something like 'hail buddha') every day, a lot like the rosary. but then again the rosary and dradle have very little in common.
