I love how individualized approaches to music are! When I first heard Hindemith's Symphony in Bb for Band, I smiled all the way through. That piece is so damn cool!

Yeah, but no doubt you had been desensitized to it because of your musical background. You probably heard his interplay of themes and ostinatos or something and thought, "Hey, cool." But to an ordinary listner I think it sounds more like a bunch of drunk people trying to yell over each other for 30 minutes.

There is one moment of each movement that I really like. In the first it is when the brass plays the 5 note theme in the climax. In the second it is this certain lick in the trumpets with weird harmonies (played once at the begining and once on top of the woodwind fugue). In the third movement it is the last 30 bars.

I think its pretty funny how some of the composers around that time attempted "jazz". They get it so wrong. Same goes for Shostakovich. His jazz music is great but its not jazz. Same with Stravinsky...although I get a little bored with it.
