As of this writing, I'm going to assume Kerry has lost the election. So what hard lesson should Kerry learn from this heartbreak? According to various interviews on NBC News, it's that the Democrats have lost touch with the social concervatives, that the Democrats can't win a national election without being a national party, that Kerry just wasn' ( Read more... )

I totally agree. That's what's really made me upset about this entire election, and I suppose the past four years. Our nation has become so black and white - republican and democrat, liberal and conservative. No matter who won last night, the other side would have been angry and I have a feeling that come the next election, they'd vote for their party for their party's sake, and not the sake of the nation (as I believe has been happening more and more recently anyway). It's going to turn into a game of left vs. right and I think for quite awhile after this, unless God Himself runs for president, these elections are going to be neck to neck due to the bad feelings the two side have for each other.
And it's really scary...

I think the divide can also be attributed to the current "My way or the highway" mentality. No one wants to comprismise, and each side preaches doomsday if the other prevails. There isn't a sense of moderation. It's definately shown in Bush, who didn't listen before doing what he thought was right. I don't see it getting any better.

George W. Bush had more people vote for him than any other person in U.S. history...
...but he also had more people vote against him than any other person in U.S. history.

As much as some people call for it, I will not stand to see the liberal party in this nation acquiesce to social conservatives.
Most things in this world are not as easy as black and white, but that is one of them:
The Christian 'right' is WRONG. Homophobia is WRONG. Bigotry is WRONG. Mysogyny is WRONG. The refusal of basic human rights to anyone, countrymen or not, is WRONG.

Liberals have values, too, dammit, and we need to speak as though we do.
The conservaties must not continue their monopoly on the language.

I'm not sure why you're telling me this. Also the fact that I happen to already agree wholeheartedly with you on what is right and wrong means you're kind of wasting your time.

When you adopt a my-way-or-the-highway mentality, you make the same mistake they do--yes, even when you are 'right' and they are 'wrong.'

The Democrats certainly shouldn't acquiesce to anybody, but they do need to ask themselves where they should go from here. I don't know the answer to that question.

worse, why are we constantly faced with the choice between idiots for president when men and women who are thinking these great thoughts, like Brokaw (as an example: i honestly don't know much about his thinking otherwise, but you see what I mean), who understand just how far it's gone, cannot make it in the system because they are unwilling to "play the game."
"One country, Two nations" is indeed exactly what has happened.
