"Heuristic" is one of those words technology people use a great deal -- in both singular and plural -- so I always associate it with Dad and his friends/associates. When I was young I asked him what it meant -- most words we learn by context, but this one stands out as one I learned by asking -- which led to an explanation several orders of magnitude longer than was required. Which is typical of my father, and of me too, I'm afraid.

Sadly it was not to be. In my mind there is no question that Eban had the best masterclass. But Eban had a nasty rumor floating about him. My teacher Leslie wouldn't tell me what it was, only that she 'notified the appropriate authorities.' I bet that did him in.

Dammit.
