"I'll get it." Riley yelled into the flat, as she was headed for the door as the doorbell rung early on a Sunday morning and Sophie was making her coffee. Riley still hadn't gotten any clothes, just mooching off Riley and Tegan so she had slept in some plaid PJ-pants and a T-shirt of Sophie which she hadn't worn in a while but were still usable. Like she would give her things that had holes in them or something, come on she's a nice a person.

When Riley opened the door, she saw an elderly couple with wide eyes. Okay, so she was probably not the person they had been expecting. By the way they looked, Riley was guessing that these were at least relatives of Sophie's. Then she gave them one of her big, bright smiles and stepped to one side so they could enter the flat. The man was ready to enter but the woman put a hand on his arm and stopped him for just a second before they headed inside. Guess we know who is the boss in that relationship. (she would say wore the pants in the relationship, but that sounds so old and well, like you need to wear pants to be the head of a family.)

"Hello. I'm Riley Nika. Who are you? I'm right in thinking you're related to Sophie?" She asked them, as they handed her their overcoats and the woman looked around the roomy apartment. You could see it plain on her face that she was not loving the cute little flat that Sophie had. Then it was probably her mother, because mothers are weird like that. They think they know best and nothing will be better than what they can offer.

"Mom? Dad? What are you doing here?" Sophie asked, as she came out of the kitchen holding her cup of coffee (she liked Tea just fine, but she usually drank it when she didn't have anything special planned that day) and looked at Riley who was trying to put the overcoats on hangers without dropping them to the floor. Sophie's mother had even handed over her gloves, scarf and bag too.

"We were just in the neighborhood and thought we would drop in to see how you were doing. Who's your friend, Aimi?" Her mom told her, which was such an obvious lie because when the hell had her parents ever just been in the neighborhood? Never, that's how often they had been. And she had lived here for years, and never had they stopped by. She usually met them at work with them going off to somewhere or she went to them. They never came to her. And Sophie hated it when her Mom called her by her last name. What, was her first name too long for her?

"Mom, she's just a friend." Sophie told her, and rolled her eyes. "And I know you're lying, so spill it. Why have you and Dad finally decided to grace my piece of haven with your presence?" She asked, as her Mom walked over to her couch and sat down before brushing that illusive imaginary lint of her dark purple skirt. Her father like always just stood to the side and let his wife do all the talking.

"Well, all right. You're brother has been in an accident and we're on our way there now. We were just wondering if you wanted to come with us." Her mother asked her, like she was asking her to come to someone's birthday party that Sophie didn't like that much or something. That was her Mom in a nutshell, nothing seemed to really panic her. She was always so freaking calm and well spoken.

You know how when children grow up and figure out their parents aren't perfect? That they make mistakes too? Well, that moment had yet to come for Sophie when it came to her Mom. It had happened with her Dad ages ago, when she was just in the early stages of her teens, but her Mom still seemed to be perfect.

"Off course, I want to go with you. He's my brother, after all and I love him. But oh, what about you, Riley? I don't know how long I would be and all."  Sophie told her Mom, shock evident on her face before she turned on to Riley who was just standing there and watching the tension in the room with interest. She guess it was the same for all family. Humans and vampires.

Sophie's Mom looked over at her daughter's friend and noticed the moss green T-shirt and the plaid PJ-pants that looked suspiciously much like the pair she had given Sophie for Christmas last year. She looked young and she had plenty of curly, blond hair. She still wondered what the girl was doing in Sophie's flat at this hour on a weekend. She looked kinda young to be friends with her daughter.

"I think it would be all right if your little friend came along with us. There is room for one more." Her Mom told them, as if she had just given her permission for something. Which was ridiculous because they were both grown women (well, kind off) and they didn't need any permissions but that's just how it felt from her, it's how she always sounded since Sophie was born or at least, since she remembered.

Sophie looked at her and asked with her eyes ; Do you want to come? Maybe it was a little weird to ask someone you hadn't know for that long to come with you to see your injured brother but at least then she would someone else to talk to in the car. Her Mom was not the best person to be stuck in the car with, she could drive you insane without talking or if you tried to hold a conversation up with her she would say these things which you didn't know how to respond to.

"It's all right. I'll be good here on my own. Don't worry about me. You just go with your parents and see your brother. I hope he's not injured critically." Riley told Sophie, and using some of her vamp mojo to get her going with little argument because she knew this was one issue Sophie might try and get her to come with. But there was no way in hell that Riley was going anywhere with the sun up.

They had just left when the door was knocked on (the doorbell not rung) and Riley had to get up from the couch to go see who it was. She had drawn the curtains shut and turned off all the lights, so there was only the glow from the Tv. She could draw the curtains because the whole Sun thing was much more like a Sun allergy thing than her actually getting caught on fire by the sun.

"Tegan, hi. Sophie's not home, if you came to see her. Did you come to see me?" Riley told her, as she grinned at the other slightly taller blond who seemed a bit startled when Riley had opened the door and she came face to face with her. She had kinda been expecting Sophie and not Riley. Since the other night and that weird Déjà vu that Tegan got when Riley handed her, her keys she couldn't seem to stop fidgeting.

"Umh, no. I cam to see Sophie. I just wanted to ask her about something. Doesn't matter, I'll come back later. Do you know when she'll be back?" Tegan asked her, as she gripped her arm with her other hand and seriously wanted to just do something with her hands but she didn't know what. She was feeling a bit antsy, for some reason.

"Her brother was in a accident. She went with her parents to see him at some hospital. I don't know how she'll be gone. But do you want to come in?" Riley tells her, about what had happened earlier that day and then invites Tegan into the dark apartment and Tegan looks into it before looking back at Riley who just smiled at her and waited for an answer.

"No, you know I have some things I've got to finish." She tells her, but it's utter lies because she has nothing to do that can't wait a day or even two. "Well, maybe. Okay, just for a little bit. Maybe half an hour or so, then I really need to be going." Tegan told Riley, who just grinned as she closed the door behind Tegan and they walked towards the couch which had kinda become Riley's bed since she had started staying there.

They both sat on the couch and watched the Tv for a bit. Riley had her feet folded underneath her and seemed pretty engrossed in the thing that was on Tv but Tegan had no idea what it was about but then she had come into the thing pretty late so there was no wonder it made no sense to her but she had wanted to see if she could figure it out on her own because she didn't want to seem stupid and ask what it was about but that was becoming her only option.

"So, umh, what are we actually watching here?" She asked a few more minutes of trying to solve this by herself. She had slipped of her shoes and sweater. One foot drawn up and her arms resting on it. Being in the dark like this always made her kinda sleepy and having only the glow from the Tv was no helping, since when she was little she used to sometimes fall asleep while her parents watched Tv and she could hear the Tv as she was trying to fall asleep.

"Nothing special. Just some documentary about the Hopi Indian tribe in the U.S. Well, I thought it wasn't anything special but it is kind of fascinating." Riley told Tegan, but when she heard nothing back she looked from the Tv to Tegan and she saw that the other blond had fallen asleep. Though she couldn't blame her, it was a very comfortable couch plus it had a sheet on it, some pillows but her covers were on a chair next to the couch.

Riley figured she'd maybe finish the documentary, let Tegan sleep a bit (she put her covers over her) and try and ignore the way her neck was kinda bare and after she took of her sweater, her arms were looking kind of enticing as well. She could practically hear the blood rushing through her veins. She hated this, being friends with your food could be complicated.

And yeah, she tended to think of them as food. After all, that's what they were. She swore she saw a mouse shoot across the floor and decided to give the Hopi-documentary a rest and transformed herself into a black cat (among her favorites to change into) and went after it. Some real, genuine cat and mouse.
