The moon is orange,
veiled and waning above the canal.

I did not see my mother today,
I looked for her in the others that passed,
I saw her in myself,
But she was asleep.

When I got home, the moon was
above my house.

Very Pretty--thanks for sharing. I especially like the line about looking for her in others that passed (possible double entendre on the word passed). On the earth plane there's lots of mother stuff going on in my life. Sometimes I can't see my mother even when she's sitting right in front of me--I wish I knew where those familar parts of her are going...

And then esoterically I like the link between mother and the moon. Very comforting

I'm off to the Lake, and other adventures this week--see you at study group next monday. xox

Mmm, that's interesting, that's really good...I hadn't thought of the other meaning of 'passed' but it definitely is more than relevant.
This poem was written based on actual events of a day, but those events seemed to reverberate on deeper and higher levels than the immediately obvious, and the day involved a lot of waiting and being quiet, and wondering what was going on. And all that happened made me think of a lot of other things that I wouldn't necessarily have thought, maybe.
Yeah. The greater reflected in the lesser, and interpenetrated...appearances showing the way to the underlying (or overlying) reality.
Deep.
I hope you have a good weekend! :)

walking thru the forest
down behind the house
i see bear tracks
trudging thru the new snow

all is quiet
so that at any moment
i could be eaten
by this big black momma

mountains of nuts and berries
she has summerlong consumed
from where once bloomed the violets
near old critter bones entombed

but now she needs winter sleep
amidst the snows and fog
crawing into her den so deep
she'll sleep some months like a log

Yow. !!

The other day, westerling and I stood outside for, oh, like half an hour or so listening to some ravens in the woods between M.H. Rd. and Wendell Rd. imitating the bullfrogs in the pond...that was amusing.

Ravens. *shakes head*
