When she was sixteen, Ema was a bright eyed optimistic girl who loved science and wanted to be a forensic scientist. She went to Europe to travel abroad for nine years. Sadly, when she got older things didn't exactly go the way she wanted. Once, she arrived in the U.S. she failed to make the set requirements to be a forensic scientist (basically she fell the test). Yet, she was qualified enough to be put into criminal affairs as a homicide detective to her dismay. Which she mentions and complains about to Apollo saying one's skills shouldn't be based on just taking a test.
Since, then Ema is usually quite moody because of it. Grumpy even. She usually waves others off if they don't have too much to talk about that wasn't concerning science or forensics. If you're annoying her she'll most likely chuck fried snack projectiles at your head or just munch constantly on her snacks. She's done this with Apollo upon their first meeting at a crime scene, interrupting him and saying 'Ssshh, it's snack time' and munch continuously on her snacks ignoring him. When Apollo brought back a bottle of fingerprint powder, her mood was suddenly uplifted, since she would get the chance to use the item at the crime scene and give Apollo a lesson on how to use it.
Though, Ema can be a pretty easy person to get along with if you get on her good side. She's very helpful and will jump at the chance to do so even more if it she can use a special gadget or new equipment she likes to use for forensics. As seen in the case with Vera Misham, Ema was eager to help Trucy and Apollo see what was in side of a envelope with a new piece of equipment she got.
Ema has great respect for people like her sister, Phoenix, and especially Miles. Important and respectable figures in her life. She doesn't like people who have really big egos like prosecutor Klavier Gavin. Who she calls a glimmerous fop. Ema mentions to Apollo that she thinks all prosecutors should be serious and cool witted, like one Miles Edgeworth though she doesn't mention his name.

Regardless that she failed the test, Ema holds a very high respectable knowledge of forensic science. She always keeps a lot of necessary tools of the trade with her in her bag (luminol, finger print powder, chemicals, test tubes, black light..etc.)
Though she doesn't use it much, she does have a issued fire arm from the precinct and also, she has a fair amount of self defense.
[Affection] If you can think you can be a smooth operator with Ema you'll most likely be rejected in no time flat. Though feel free to try.
