:: nods knowingly :: Now you know the source of some of my more interesting stories from 30 years in healthcare. You see them after detox. I see them in the ICU after their overdose- intentional or accidental.
Don't let them crazymake you because they will draw you in and down.
You're new so it's awful and chaotic. It will get better. They won't, but you will.
I lived in a group home for about a year, albeit with disabled adults rather than addicts. Which was its own kind of special, albeit not to the level of chaotic shit which you describe here, to which I can only say WOW. However, I have a parent who is an addict and have had "friendships" with addicts not in recovery, and yeah, they do crazy shit. Being in a whole house of them... WOW.
I am glad that you have the boyfriend to go to at the end of the day and breathe in the sanity. It will be especially important to keep these connections. After awhile you may get used to it, but yeah, high-stress job. *hugs for support*
But if you wanted to urine test him, it would be so much easier!! :)
Seriously, I am working with substance users, and almost was in a setting similar to yours (but where clients don't get bounced for relapse). Hang in there!
Thanks. It's not horrid all the time--apparently Friday nights are predictably awful [guess who works Friday nights?] but they're pretty mild most of the time. When I'm not working 16 hours straight. Then everything makes me want to throttle them. ;)
Hey there! Just wanted to thank you for joining sexy_mood_music! I hope you enjoy the wide range of graphics and music we've offered so far!
Feel free to contribute links to our monthly music-sharing post! The link to the latest music post is on the top of our main page (not the profile).
BTW, do you happen to know where I can promote the comm with some banners by our makers? Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Take care! :)

P.S. If you'd like to help promote through your own journal or userinfo, please feel free to snag a banner at the link below. [Please do upload it to your own server though so the comm doesn't exceed its Photobucket bandwidth limit!]
