So far, anyone I've pointed at this has said that they can't see it -- can you make it public?

Politics and funding sources.

If that weren't the case... :)

I'm actually tempted, but this might be an indicator of how much i need a vacation...

I've passed it along; I have some folks on my flist north of Latitude 52 who may be able to help network.

For those of us in the crowd who haven't been keeping track (e.g. me), what's absolutely fascinating and mindboggling project are you up to now for which you require an assistant cook?

And... How long for? That far north winter and summer mean radically different things, capable of being handled by far different people.

Excellent - thanks :).

I'm spending my summer (well, July and the first half of August) as Camp Cook/Systems & Network Support for the Haughton Mars Project on Devon Island, Nunavut.

The assistant cook would probably be needed from mid-July - mid-August, though I don't have exact dates yet. It is a paid position, though I don't have a feel for how much it pays.

Mmmmm, late summer in the arctic. Best time to go, in my opinion. I'd jump at the opportunity if I could.

I might be interested, depending on how much it pays.

someone mentioned this to me:

my friend suggests (because it is the canadian arctic) that an interested
person might be found through the wilderness canoe association
(wildernesscanoe.ca) whose members are nearly all canadians and do things
like canoe trip in the canadian arctic.

oohh, good suggestion. I've thought that cooking schools and colleges would be good places to look too. The trick is that we're needing to move fairly quickly on this - whee!
