Canon history: Wikipedia
AU history: Rather than being from Montressor, a different planet entirely, Doppler's alien family settled in Space Port, of the continent Evangeline, two generations ago. He was always a very studious child, if a little awkward, and earned his doctorate in astrophysics. Most of his time revolved around academic research and advancement until the events of the Treasure Planet movie, in which he funded the expedition to find Flint's trove.

Returning from the voyage, it was easy enough to pick up from where he left off. When the strange mist began to creep into place, Doppler was only marginally involved in the academic aspects of solving the delima, as such a thing is far from his usual course of study. (Also, something very mysterious hardly allows for conclusive research, now does it?) With the threat growing, however, and the world becoming antsy, Doppler left his telescope, estate, and observatory behind to answer the call of Disney Academy.

He's not the best speaker, granted, but he can lecture if it's for the good of the world.

Personality: Doppler is something of an typical mega-nerd. He loves what he does, and what he does is school! He's contantly got his snout stuck in a book, bespectacled eye to the telescope, pen to paper... He's genuinely very curious about the world and wants to understand how everything functions. He's proud of the work that he does, which often makes him very arguementative and somewhat egotistical of his accomplishments.

As illustrated with the expedition to Treasure Planet, Doppler's interests do not sway completely away from the fantastical. In spite of his affinity for the library, he also had a deeply-buried desire to be more adventurous, take more risks, etc. He's just as exciting about field work, yessir.

Socially, he's... Kind of awkward. Again, the typical geek, fumbling over his big words and often not knowing how to react to people. He has a few long-standing friendships, such as Sarah Hawkins, many work-based relationships and contacts, but he's no social butterfly. Being largely immersed in books and other subjects, he's not entirely in-touch with other people and social norms. This, like his sense of adventure, is something he's trying to develope more in himself.

In short, Delbert's an argumentative, hard-working book worm who's attempting to become a more outgoing, socially graceful guy!

Greatest Fear: He doesn't want to world to be wiped out, and this would be catastrophic for two reason: because it would destroy sentient life, which is the common sympathetic reasoning, and, less common a thought-patter, all of the knowledge that people have worked to obtain and create would be destroyed.

I suppose a way of putting it would be that he not only fears the loss of life, but he fears the loss of a legacy even more.

❦ Writing
Third person writing sample:
This house was entirely too large!

Delbert was trying very hard to find the last of what he needed before departing. His clothes were all packed. Toiletries? Check. Momentos? Check. Star-charts, volumes, and eyeglass repair kit? Check, check, and check.

So where was his bloody watch? He'd taken it out of his vest pocket to move a sofa or... Something like that. He couldn't quite remember, but he was quite sure he'd just had it, and now it was gone, and he just needed that one thing before he could leave his house in the capable hands of... Whoever it was he'd hired to check up on the place. And Sarah. Sarah had said she'd drop by to make sure everything was in working order. A gentleman could not afford to keep even an empty house unhospitable, after all.

That had been his father's watch! He... Well, it was just a bit of practically-antique technology, but it was beautifully crafted, and there was perfectly reasonable sentimental value attached to it. He could not, under any circumstances, leave without that--

Oh. There it was. He'd marched frustratedly into his bedroom just to find it on the dresser, and he let out a breath of relief and picked it up quickly. To think, he hadn't even collected it when he dressed that morning! And he had been so worried!

That was it, though... He had some remaining reservations about his ability to teach, but this was rather important, bigger than what he thought he could do. He was ready.

First person writing sample:
Greetings and salutations! I'm meant to introduce myself, I suppose, and that's easy enough a task. I'm Doctor Delbert Doppler, noted astrophysicist of Space Port, Evangeline, though I have little doubt that my endeavors have reached beyond the boundaries of my own home continent. Or is that wishful thinking?

Either way, my endeavor here is something of a new one, for all my experience. I have given a few talks, here and there, but I have never actually taught, barring some tudoring and guidance in graduate school and beyond. Nevertheless, I hope that I can spark a genuine interest in the kind of work that I love doing and, of course, help the the world in any way that I can by preparing students for the tasks ahead of them!

I will have office hours posted soon, and I can also work with any individual by appointment. I hope the lot of you are willing to work as hard as I am in order to make this mutually benefitial to all involved.
