Chapter 4: Sungmin
“Hey, did you have fun?”
Sungmin asked cheerfully from the couch when Kyuhyun entered the dorm in the evening. He was watching one of the latest drama, although he usually didn't watch dramas. But it's a decent one, he thought, only until Kyuhyun got home anyway. The later already texted him this afternoon, saying he would come late since he and Kibum had math tutorial for olimpiad preparation. It happened regularly since somehow SM College always chose them as representative in many competitions. And Kyuhyun always accepted it, while Kibum sometimes rejected it due his shooting schedule.
Kyuhyun kissed the corner of his hyung's mouth before he replied tiredly, “if you consider doing hundreds equation as fun.”
But nervethless he smiled, so Sungmin knew not to worry. The older man got up and took Kyuhyun's bag, put it aside before he pulled his dongsaeng to sit on the couch with him. He smiled gently when he felt a head on his shoulder. Kyuhyun's hair tickled his cheek and he shuddered. A weird but nice feeling sipped through him when he glanced at the man leaned on him who now had closed his eyes and breathed softly.
“Do you want to move to our room?”
“Nah, here is okay.”
Sungmin nodded although the younger man couldn't see him. He resumed watching the drama on TV, knowing Kyuhyun ned some time before his snarky self back. Sometimes he felt the college put too much pressure on the magnae, but since Kyuhyun seemed happy enough as it was, he tried not to worry. After all, as weird as it may sound, Kyuhyun enjoyed math, science, programming, and everything which required logic skill to mastered.
There were noises from the outside and the door opened to reveal Kim Kibum, looking as tired as Kyuhyun. He bought two white boxes in his hand, which he put on the floor as he took his coat off and put it on the rack. Sungmin smiled and greeted him, “Hey, Kibum.”
“Oh, hi, hyung. Kyuhyun's already here I see,” greeted the young man as he took off his shoes.
“Yeah, he arrived about ten minutes ago. Why didn't you two come home together?”
“I went to bakery first. Donghae-hyung asked me to buy him a cheese cake.”
“Oh,” Sungmin nodded, glancing questioningly at Kibum when the later put a box on the table near him.
Kibum shrugged, “It's for you and Kyuhyun. I know both of you love chocolate cake.”
“Eh?”
“You paid for me when we went to the cafe before,” said the younger man with his usual dazzling smile, “And I have to buy for Kyuhyun too because I know he'll eat yours if I didn't. And what's the point of buying you some cakes if you didn't eat it?”
“Well...” Sungmin laughed, knew exactly that Kibum was right. Afterall, he spoiled the magnae too much sometimes. “Thank you, Kibum.”
The said man nodded, didn't say anything else before making his way to Donghae's room. The silence came back once again, the only sound was from the TV and Kyuhyun's soft breath. Although it wasn't for long as another sound of door opened heard, and another person came.
Yesung never failed to make Sungmin sighed like a fan everytime he saw him walking by. Maybe it's his hair, that messy dark brown hair which actually really soft too touch. Or maybe it's the way he stride confidently, making all eyes turned to him effortlessly. Or maybe it's his piercing gaze, so beautigul and so mysterious. Or maybe his husky voice when he called his name.
“Sungmin.” Yup, exactly like that.
“Hyung,” he replied with a smile.
Yesung sat on another sofa, carefully opened the box of cakes Kibum bought and smiled gleefully when he saw the cake. He glanced at Sungmin, not saying anything. But Sungmin knew him well enough to know what''s his hyung thinking.
“Go ahead, hyung, but please leave some for Kyuhyun.”
The older man grinned like a kid and took a spoon from the box, carefully took a bite of the cake. He seemed happy if the satisfied grin on his face was an indication. His hyung hated sweets, maybe that's why he loved coffee and dark chocolate very much. From the way he looked, Sungmin could tell the cakes was made with dark chocolate just like his hyung liked. And Kyuhyun. Both of them not too fond of sweets, but both of them loved chocolate.
“Try some, Ming,” said the singer as he offered him a spoonful of cake. Which he took while humming, careful not to waking up the magnae slept on his shoulder.
“It's not sweet, hyung.”
Yesung laughed.
oOo
Yesung and Kyuhyun, Sungmin noticed, afterall were very different. Yesung was a lot more vocal, with strange sense of humour and original jokes. While Kyuhyun was more quiet, his words were sharp, and his jokes were often cruel. But the most noticable difference was the way they treated him. While Yesung listened to his every words and accepted his decision, Kyuhyun tended to ignore him. It kind of pissed him sometimes. The magnae never accepted no for every wish he had.
Yesung never demanded much attention from him, and he never initiated kissing in public if Sungmin didn't do anything first. But Kyuhyun... he didn't understand why Kyuhyun seemed to enjoy public affection so much. And why the magnae demanded his attention for every seconds, as if he bolonged to him.
At first he thought Kyuhyun did it in purpose, to make Kangin give up about him. After all, that was the reason for all of this pretend. But then again, Kyuhyun liked to hold his hand and nuzzled his neck even when there's no Kangin around. And when the magnae started to touch him even when there were only the two of them, he thought maybe Kyuhyun just liked skinship. Sungmin himself was a touchy person, so he didn't mind at all. He actually rather fond of the way his roomate kissed him good morning or the way he held him at night.
It was one lazy Sunday afternoon when Kyuhyun and Sungmin were laying on the older's bed, just lazying around. It was their habit to spend the afternoon together. Before, Sungmin probably would just read his book with Kyuhyun's head on his laps while the magnae busy played with his PSP. But now, Kyuhyun didn't even touch his game. His left hand wrapped Sungmin's waist while the other hand rubbed the older's thigh. Successfully distracting Sungmin so the later finally gave up his book and lied his head on Kyuhyun's shoulder. The magnae took this as a permission for him to start kissing the smaller man's neck.
“Damn, you're cute,” he groaned.
Sungmin laughed, “you've said that hundreds times already since we start faking this relationship.”
He felt Kyuhyun stiffened a little. He frowned and held his dongsaeng's hand on his waist. “What's wrong?”
“Nothing.”
“Are you sure?” Sungmin asked concernly, turning his face to meet Kyuhyun's.
“Yeah.”
The older man still looked unsure even when Kyuhyun already said it's nothing and resumed his doing. But later when Kyuhyun kissed his temple, he smiled and laughed. Already forgot the awkwardness some minutes ago. Afterall, he trusted Kyuhyun would tell him if it's something important. If he said nothing, then it's nothing. Maybe he just remembered something umpleasant.
“So, did Kangin say anything yet?”
“Not even a word,” Sungmin shook his head, “do you think he gave up already?”
“I'm not sure,” said the magnae slowly before flashing his usual cocky grin, “just make sure you'd tell him you're with me if he ever asked you again.”
“Yeah, I'll do that.”
“You okay?”
“I-I just don't understand why he asked me out. I thought Leeteuk-hyung and him were happy.”
Kyuhyun shrugged his shoulder, “things are not always like what it seems.”
“Maybe...”
The pink lover sighed, never in his life he imagined that he would be tangled in a mess like this. What's next? Siwon suddenly leave Heechul for him? Or maybe Eunhyuk decides that they were for each other. Or maybe Zhoumi would think he's cute and ship him to China.
“Ming?”
He snapped from his thought. The familiar nick name made him frowned. Not that he didn't like it, Yesung and Heechul always called him Ming anyway. But somehow, hearing Kyuhyun said it was weird.
“Yah, call me hyung!” was his automatic response.
“You're my boyfriend now,” Kyuhyun said mockingly.
Sungmin didn't know what to reply so he just puffed his cheeks.
“You let him call you Ming.”
Sungmin blinked.
“What?”
“When he fed you the cake, he called you Ming. And you didn't complain.”
Kyuhyun's face was unreadable and at times like this, Sungmin wished he had telephatic to know what's on his roomate's mind. Because it was awkward, and he didn't know what to say. Should he explain himself? But he didn't do anything wrong--did he?
“Okay, fine. You can call me that,” he finally said.
But Kyuhyun still stared at him with those unreadable eyes. It was scary and Sungmin shivered a bit. He bit his lips, trying to find words that could take that blank expression from the magnae's face. He swore he'd do anything as to make Kyuhyun stops looking at him like that.
oOo
“So you're with Kyuhyun now?” asked Yesung, didn't look up at Sungmin as he was busy feeding his tortoises. The room was quiet. Yesung and Ryeowook's room was at the end of the hall, so it's far more secluded and quiet than other room. Although most times Sungmin loved this room, now he's not too fond with it. The silence is just too much.
“Yeah...” he managed to reply.
“It's about time.”
Sungmin frowned, “What?”
“Nothing, I'm just saying,” said the older man as he stood, his usual playful smile gracing his lips, “So I guess you want to say it's over between us?”
Sungmin sighed, he didn't like this atmosphere. “Why do I feel like we're breaking up?”
“Yeah, it kinda feels like that,” he pouted when the man in front of him chuckled lightly. It's not like he regret this or something, afterall they were bestfriends. And maybe they should act like bestfriends, not somekind of lovers. They should pursue their own happiness. Atleast that's what Sungmin said to himself. It still felt like breaking up, and Sungmin hated goodbyes. Although it's not a real goodbye.
“I hate this feeling, hyung,” he confessed.
“We only won't kissing or other things any longer.”
“It still sounds like break up.”
“I know,” Yesung ruffled his hair affectionately, “But we didn't have that kind of relationship. Did we?”
“Yeah... I think I'm going to miss you though,” Sungmin managed to give him a weak smile, “It'll be strange, not being able to touch you anymore.”
“No need to make that disappointed expression. I know I'm amazing in bed but...”
“You know it's not about that!” he had to laugh at that. His hyung was just too weird sometimes. He punched Yesung's shoulder playfully before he looked up, all smiling now.
“What? You're saying I'm not good?” Yesung asked with fake hurt expression, exgravated his act with widening his eyes which made him look like a fish instead. The pink-loving man chuckled at the older man's antics. He loved this man dearly, he knew that much. He hugged his hyung's waist, breathed the familiar smell he had grown accustomed to.
“You're good, very good, I'll admit that, hyung”
Another ruffle on his hair and he felt pair of arms wrapped his body/
“Well, I think I'm going to miss this thing we have too. It's nice to have someone to hold every while and then.”
“Hyuuung...” he snuggled into his hyung's embrace deeper.
“Try not to make Kyuhyun too angry, okay?”
Sungmin blinked.
“Huh?”
“He's easily get jealous,” said Yesung with a chuckle patting Sungmin's head all the while.
“It's not like that between him and me, hyung,” Sungmin said with a frown, “ we're just pretending.”
“You think so?”
He pinched Yesung's arm. Only stopped when his hyung's embrace tightened until he couldn't breath. He struggled and released himself from the embrace. “Hyung!”
Yesung grinned.
“Come here, let me kiss you for the last time.”
The older leaned down to kiss him and Sungmin let him.
It was a goodbye and usually Sungmin hated goodbyes. But it's perfect, and Sungmin knew it's only a beginning. So it's okay, because he knew no matter what Yesung would always be by his side. They might not in love with each other, but they did love each other. Because Yesung was the best hyung he ever had, and he derseved to be happy. And it's okay, because he had Kyuhyun. And if this was what Kyuhyun wanted, he'd granted it.
“Bestfriend?”
“Always, Ming. Always.”
“Hyung, I think you need to speak to Ryeowook. He's waiting for you, you know?” Sungmin spoke softly, smiling cheerfully as he made his way to the door.
Yesung only smiled and shrugged his shoulder.
“I know.”
