I'd like to modify this dress, and would love to hear opinions about my plans:
To make it more "sixties" I'd like to make it MINI. That would be easy just by cutting it straight above the knee and hemming it. But to make it more interesting, and to avoid wasting all the leftover fabric I got an idea:
- making lots of vertical cuts from the original hem all the way up to the new one, so it becomes a MINI with LONG FRINGES.
So my questions are twofold:
- style: would it look nice?
- technical: this is 100% synthetic material. It doesn't ravel. Each fringe may be 1" wide or less and almost 30" long. I think the sides of each fringe will curl inwards.
Would the material work as I expect, or will behave erratically?
Should I reinforce the top end of the fringes (new hem) somehow, maybe sewing all around?
Any other comment about the end result or the making that you can think of?
Thanks
