Katrina and Rita are part of a 60 year cycle that has lasted for thousands of year. This active phase has started in 1995, so we have 20 more years with many hurricanes, which should be followed 30 years with few hurricanes. It is not due to global warming or pollution or climate change. Given how long the cycle has been occuring, one could even say it's an indication that the climate *hasn't* changed.

I hope the plan is a bit more active than to sit and wait for 60 years to find out if we should have been taking better care of the planet.

For sure. There are other problems (such as the other problems you have listed) which *are* due to our mistreatment of the planet.

Dawn was pointing out the population of Earth has doubled since she was born, and it's expected to double again in 20 years. Population growth is surely a major underlying causes of our pollution concerns.

Hey here's one to grown on, the world population has doubled since I was born, and we've killed the 4th largest freshwater lake in the world had so much of it's water piped away for irrigation that it's now toxic and kills everything within 3 miles of it's shore.

And of course there's always the extinction clock http://www.care2.com/news/section/clock
