Today I learned that one of our favorite Daniel/Vala fanfic authors spiletta42 has passed away.

In 2018.

TODAY I logged into my Tumblr (which I hadn't done since 2018) & noticed unread Messages from qtheallpowerful dated 27 Nov 2018. She kindly let me know that Spi passed away 1 July 2018. The obituary mentions this:

I was so saddened by the news of Spiletta's death. No Place Like Home and Return to Xanadu were two of my all-time favorite stories. I've reread them more times than I care to admit. I also loved the writing/editing tips that used to be at Spiletta's personal webiste. She was always kind in interactions I had with her. Love to her family and friends. May she rest in peace.

kehwie I wish I'd bothered to check my Tumblr Messages back in 2018! (At the time, it was a brand new feature that I had no use for.)

I feel we could've found a way to preserve her domain name + website before the hosting & registry expired 😔

Oh, that would've been lovely! I was sad all over again the first time I went to her site and it wasn't there. (Although of course I understood.)

And I truly wish I'd realized you didn't know. I am sorry for that.

kehwie qtheallpowerful says she has all of Spi's website files & just needs the free time to re-format them into a Dreamwidth archive. So hopefully the next generation of Daniel/Vala fans will be able to enjoy the full spectrum of Spi's talent!

Oh, my goodness! I read the obit back in 2018, and somehow missed that! I think my brain just corrected it to what it should be.

I am certain she is. :)
