ok, so this weekend i am staying with a temporary host family for three days because my host family have claimed that for the vernal equinox day they are going to pay respects to mama's fathers grave. i have come up with my own theory - they cannot possibly top the last two weekends

Great to know that you are enjoying your time in Japan. It is great that you have a nice host family. So, you had Oden the first night... that must have been a challenge. Have you had a quiet word with mama-san?
Oh, the engrish you found, Narlhodo, instead of Marlboro, is a Japanese phrase (naruhodo) meaning "oh, I see".

So, where is your host family's place? And where is the language course held?
