I've never read Jane Eyre (I'm an ignorant savage when it comes to classic literature), but re-imaginings can always be interesting. I don't know what to advise - it might be frustrating for you to start and then not have the time to continue the writing when the baby's born, but I know how much an initial nibble of a story idea will soon start to gnaw at me if I don't sit down and write it. Maybe start drafting out some ideas for the story while you're waiting for the baby, and then see how you feel once he/she's born? Good luck whatever you decide!
What can I say? GO AND READ IT! :-D Or, at least, check out the numerous TV adaptations that were made of it. My favourite is the one with Toby Stephens as Mr. Rochester

I've never read Jane Eyre. I think. I don't remember, really. So I won't at all be able to appreciate the details. But I am sure I'll be able to appreciate the story anyway, so do as you please, you have a loyal reader in me.
I love Jane Eyre! I re-read it just last year! You could maybe have Molly as Blanche? Would be a nice one for the Sherlolly shippers :) Moriarty as the guy who has the school?
I'd certainly read such a story. I don't think it's necessary to have it by the deadline. After all it's not a contest. There's nothing to win or to loose if you don't make it by then :D
