Photoblog: My fishing holiday

Aug 16, 2014 17:45

Well, it was more of a family holiday, but still.

River Lužnice, South Bohemia. Our cottage above a weir (which went through construction works at the time but save for a bit od noise it wasn't so bad. Well, not for me. I'm used to noise in the city. My in-laws complained all the time. Children didn't seem to mind,)

That lil boy at the stairs is Jan, my fifteen month old son. Climbs everywhere, eats everything, loved the holiday to bits. There's been a bit of playground at the cottage, a slide and a sandbox, and he literally had to be dragged out of there every evening.

This was MY favourite place of the holiday: the hammock.

The girl in my arms is Hana, my five-and-a-half year old daughter. She spent most of the time plucking daisies from the backyard lawn:)

The weather was mostly rainy (as usual when we go on holiday ;-)) but neither the kids nor the fish seemed to mind.

This is Lilly, she just turned three. She's fishing. She's a very dedicated fisher and also a mushroom picker:)

This is our first fish. A vimba. 49cm. Fried on the pan the next evening and very delicious. My father-in-law's trophy:)

This elated creature is me seconds after I caught my first fish ever:)))) A mere bleak, but add to it some fifty more bleaks and you get a lovely dinner. I caught ten of them in total, we've been taking turns. Only two rods for four eager fishermen:)

The kids loved to lunch and dine outdoors. Even when the weather wasn't exactly outdoor-friendly.

Hana and her dad went for a short visit of the town Tábor.

Lilly, on the other hand, was more a fan of boat trips down the river:

I even got to catch a weak wi-fi signal from a nearby camping site, in the fines Sherlockian fashion cracked their password (on a first guess!) and enjoyed some lovely comments on my fics (and even sometimes managed to reply:)). As an added benefit, I got the most marvelous news regarding October next year, and I am very much looking forward to it.

Just remembered that I had another Sherlockian moment out there: one day I went out to the river to where my father-in-law's fishing rods were placed and I asked what kind of fish he's got baited for. My husband answered: "If you were Sherlock, you'd be able to deduce it."

You see, I know next to nothing about fishing. The ten bleaks are the pinnacle of my experience. To me, one rod is much the same hi-tech nonsense as another. But the way my husband challenged me... well, I took a proper look and after a while I beamed: "For zanders!" "Well done," my husband said, "and how do you know?" "Because the bucket with little live fish he's been catching yesterday as a bait for zanders stands next to the rods, not under the verandah like yesterday evening." A proper deduction, that one:)
