So, belated thanks to all who wished me happy birthday on Saturday.

Managed to have a good time, although not before my employer had done their best to make sure I didn't by keeping me on the phone for 2 hours on Saturday evening. Eventually I got rather upset, they were very apologetic, and yes I know I shouldn't have let it go on that long in ( Read more... )

A rewatch at some point is in order I think.

I really msut see it. However, nothing can live up to the hype of having Dan H AND Niall liking it, surely?

pikelet loved it too. No, it didn't really live up to that hype for me, which isn't to say it's not good, because it is, just perhaps not that good.

It's the lyricism of it more than anything else. Nothing happens; little is said; the ending just happens. But some of those exchanges, the beauty of the cinematography and effects, and the performances of all the actors but especially Clooney, all combine to make what is to me the science fiction equivalent of Lost in Translation. It stays with you, too: I've grown more and more to like it over time. Having said that, I was very quiet as the lights went up in the cinema. Just lovely.

I hate over-hyped stuff, too. So apologies. :)

Is that specifically designed to cause Niall to have to explain why it's not the sci-fi Lost in Translation? ;)

Ah, don't be silly. The present was very much appreciated, and it's a film I've been meaning to see for ages. I rather suspect rewatching with more idea of what to expect from the film will allow me to appreciate it more for what it is. :)

you may know him better as Mr Hartland, immortalradical, or one of many other names that I shan't go into here

His lastest one is Freckle Nose.
