Tower used to have a really good selection of cds, I was in one recently and it is nowhere near what it used to be. Not to mention they charge like $19 a cd, they can't compete with Amazon, or a lot of the other internet stores as well, tons of used cd sites on the web as well. Don't forget about itunes where you can often get a brand new cd for about $10-11, just don't get the nice book and other stuff that goes with the cd. If you buy from there the artist still get paid which is good too. Even at 20% off price they still can't beat a lot of the other prices of above places.

While Tower holds a special place in my heart, the first place I bought Skinny Puppy, Ministry, Frontline, F242 and KMFDM. Beyond those starter bands, their selection of stuff that was even remotely what I was into was blown through in under a year.

Hell, even really impressive record stores like Amoeba, don't generally have what I'm looking for. I end up mail ordering from places like Vinyl Fetish, Vendetta Music, Malignant Records, Crunchpod etc. And only have to pay 12-14 dollars for albums that at a minimum would have cost me 18-25 at a local record store.

I won't miss tower, in fact, I havnt set foot in one in over 10 years. ]

I'm also that guy who shows up at concerts, with all the cd's a band ever released, that I've been able to track down via Gemm.com or whatever and tell them I discovered them through file sharing . . . now sign all my cd's.

It's definitely a little bit sad considering back in the day, Tower Records was this magical place that actually stocked music I couldn't find elsewhere and I LOVED it, but it hasn't been what it was in ages. The selection hasn't been all that great and what was there was frequently overpriced. While sure, it may not be quite the same as actually making a day of music shopping, going out to the store, and hunting around for stuff, I'd rather order exactly what I need on the internet, pay around $14 per CD MAX for it, and have it turn up at my door in a day or two ( ... )
