twitter strain

I think twitter may be bad for me. Its been all abuzz with news from Iran for a week or so. I've tried to stay out of this issue for a few reasons:
  1. I don't really know much about what is going on there, nor about the history of Iran.
  2. Its hard to really know what's going on there due to things like the expulsion of foreign media, internet censorship ( Read more... )

twitter is a bit mental, i think it's because of all the media people we know on there (and you have more than me). sometimes i just can't look at it.

i think those married people had octuplets and were maybe on a reality show? i had to google them, and then i quit reading when i realized i didn't care.

yeah, I mean I didn't think it was terribly likely that the USA was behind it, but it is just so convenient that it just makes me not want to pick a side.

I had heard a bit about the voting irregularities ... I just don't know how good the information coming out of Iran is.

I would have thought that if the clergy had started joining in, that this might influence the supreme leader somewhat ...

I like Twitter, but I stay as far away as I can from pop culture and overwhelming politics. Pop culture bores me rigid (we canceled our cable TV last week because we never watched it, and I'm pleased to say I have no idea who Jon and Kate are beyond their names and the fact that they have a bunch of kids) and I'm actually kind of interested in other people's political views, but not in the kind of crazed RTing that was going on over Iran ( ... )

I think twitter makes it easy to get caught up in something that you might want to take back later. That's why I try to be cautious. Its just so immediate and off the top of your head.

I like it because it helps me feel like I'm hanging out with friends, even when I'm at work.

"Everything else is nothing to do with me or anyone I'll ever know"

That is so true. The internet and a lot of communication interfaces have made people's business far too public. Do we really need to know the last time someone picked their nose or what they had for breakfast?
I just wonder how much time is wasted reading about things other people do, or telling the world what you are doing every step of the way. How much of this time could be put to a better, more productive use? How many people waste their lives being involved with what some one they don't know does every few seconds, minutes, days,,whatever?
There is so much more to living!

well I figure that people in general waste 80%-90% of their lives on pointless or menial tasks anyhow. So I don't really mind that aspects. If it wasn't twitter it would just be TV or books or something else.
