i like how out of sync this scene is with the rest of the film. i love it when movies have moments like that, that don't quite fit the tone? another example would be the sherilyn fenn sequence in wild at heart...
I saw WILD AT HEART but I don't remember the scene you're talking about. Still I totally agree on moments that don't fit the tone. Thinking about it, it's pretty rare for movies to do that. At least, I can't think of another example, though I think I know what you're talking about.
I'm not totally sure why, but this part of this movie always informed my viewing of the scene in RIO BRAVO when Dean Martin sings. It's a pretty different scene, most importantly a social one, but because I'd seen LUKE first, I always paid very close attention to Dean Martin when he sang in that scene and it was easy to imagine him alone in his head.
