I love it! it is so dark and sickly and beautiful at the same time! Such a mixture of machines and organic parts, it´s so dynamic! And his characters look so androgynous too... *luff*

Which one is your favorite pic?

I know! I think it's interesting how he leaves the skin tones so pale, almost white. They are so delicately beautiful, they truly give me heart palpitations! LOL!
I guess of this bunch of pictures I'm kind of taken with the first one, she looks so mysterious, but I also like the one of Cloud on the left, just in suspended animation there, eerie! Which one do you like?

If you want to see something amazing Amano did, look at following link. An animated version of 1001Nights, a feast for the eyes! Watch full screen.

Such exquisite detail! I like the dude with the hat. He looks like a gunslinger.

He does, I think you got it right on! This character is an illustration Amano did for a series of Japanese novels called Vampire Hunter D by Hideyuki Kikuchi. *Also for a move that came out in 1985.

According to wikipepia... 'D, a sort of lone wolf-like knight-errant, wanders through a far-future post-nuclear Earth that combines elements of pulp genres: western, science fiction, horror, high fantasy, H. P. Lovecraftian mythos, folklore and occult science. The planet, once terrified by the elegant but cruel Nobles (vampires), ancient demons, mutants and their technological creations, is now slowly returning to a semblance of order and human control - thanks in part to the decadence that brought about the downfall of the vampire race, to the continued stubbornness of frontier dwellers and, to the rise of a caste of independent hunters-for-hire who eliminate supernatural threats.'

Sounds like a sci-fi western to me, bet his illustrations are gorgeous!

Wow it's such a collection of different things all in one. It's beautiful yet dark! Human yet unhumanely at the same time. I love them.

Yeah, I'm awestruck with his work! He's been working commercially since he was 15 and has a huge body of work out there. Amazing!
