books, books everywhere
I just checked to make sure that my excel spreadsheet with all my books was up-to-date. After digging through my stuff from the Waco apartment, I found all my writing reference books (but not my bloody writing binder, which is still MIA), and excel is now entirely up-to-date with all of my books.
So, while I was doing that anyway, I highlighted in my excel file all the books I haven't read. Some of them were highlighted because, even though I've read them, they were earlier books in a series in which I haven't read the later books, and I really need to re-read the whole series to get caught up. There's also a few on the list that I may have read, but it's been so long that I can't remember if I've read them or not, so they got put on the list anyway.
I am restricting myself to this list. I am not allowed to read anything that isn't on the list until I've cleared at least five books off it. And then I'm only allowing myself to read one non-list book until I've cleared at least five more books off the list. And so on and so forth until I've finally worked my way through all the books on my bookshelf that I've bought (or received as gifts, although only a very few on the list fall under that category) and yet never read. Obviously newly-purchased books will go onto this list, too, because I can't go that long without buying new books, but they'll be relegated to "list" status.
And now that I don't have reading that I have to do for school (hallelujah), I might actually be able to work my way through these books with some decent speed.
