Bias in Adaptation

I remember when Meghan started raving about the fact that there was going to be a big-screen adaptation of Douglas Adam’s The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and thinking fan-girl. Unless someone else’s tastes nearly mirror mine, I have a tendency to dismiss any sort of suggestion given to me. I’m sure it’s the same for other people as well. ( Read more... )

You take out of movies what you want to take out. The film had a limited budget and the imagination of the book is beyond what even Lucas could do. You go for the laughs, and for the randomness [it makes sense from the book] and you enjoy it. It's not going to be a star wars and it's not going to be a cold mountain. It's not going to be a caddyshack or a mall rats. It's just going to be a movie about the end of the world and some stupid brit

I'm not so sure about small budget. What I saw in the previews was pretty good stuff in terms of special effects.

Dude, Kevin Smith movies rarely have a budget over $100,000. In fact, I think Clerks had a lower budget than The Blair Witch Project.

Yeah, I was suprised I didn't like it too. I like the humor of the books, so I thought I would like the humor of the movies. The movie waslow budget though, and my standards are a little higher then they used to be. To me it is not worth the ticket price of a movie, but if someone else rents it, try it out.

Hmmm, maybe the budget was spent more on TV spots, which were abundant.
