2012 (late)

I am your friend and I will continue to be your friend.
We haven't nurtured that friendship as much as we could have but we have not destroyed it either.

Hugs from Denver

Sounds good. I can relate in many ways. I think in the past I had a philosophy that everyone was equal so from that it meant that all deserved attention from me regardless of how messed up or abusive they were to me.
I'm much better now and especially now living in a city with such a high population that it's not possible to know everyone so you have to choose who you will know.
I still do a weird thing where some people, for some reason cause an uneasiness so I keep my distance for awhile and I don't know what it is really. It's sort of unfair to them.
But like all things, it's a process. That fact that we're both conscious and willing to figure it out is good. It doesn't matter if some people figured it out sooner than others. It really doesn't.

I think you're doing pretty good considering all the foibles of internet-assisted relationships. Keep your pecker up, Red.

It is some satisfaction to be of some use, even to people who don't appreciate or deserve it.

I was thinking particularly of the couplet

Deliver me from every pride -- the middle, high and low --
That bars me from a brother's side, whatever pride he show.

Kipling tends to be preachy, but there he puts a lot into a very few words. Not that I have followed his advice much.
