i can answer that
you dont make your journal friends only, you make your entries.
at the bottom of the update page theres a thing labled "security"
on all the entries you want friends only, just change the security to "friends" and itll be friends only
you only make the 'friends only comment to be added' page public.
then add the people who comment to your friends list
