I don't want to spoil you (how far in are you?), but at one point it's strongly implied that the Avatar's existence doesn't follow the same metaphysical rules as other people's... and that it's rather sad. I always saw it as an unfortunate burden one person has to bear for the sake of the preservation of balance, but your idea of some sort of cosmic punishment is super interesting.

And I totally agree that Zuko/Katara is a great pairing.

I know pretty much what happens throughout the series in a vague way and have seen about 8 eps that I found through Hulu. And even if the Avatar doesn't follow the same rules as everyone else, it's still duty after duty with no real rest. Even the trees get vacations (we call it winter).

I don't know it just seemed a little hinky to me. *shrugs*. Glad you found my theory interesting. If I could come up with a decent plot I'd write something with it, but sadly the Avatar bunnies have been avoiding me still. I think they're shy.

Anyway. Yes, Zuko/Katara is awesome.
