Daphne ran her fingers through her dark brown hair. The thumping in her head was getting louder. She just wanted her summer to slow down and start being fun.

"Do you know how terrible it is having your entire life mapped out?" she asked, anger rising inside of her. "And now this...and you...now you're just giving up!"

"Giving up?" Terry asked angrily, his cool disappearing. "Me being pissed off doesn't mean I'm giving up. You just told me that your mum wants you to marry some French boy. How do you expect me to feel? We're not even and official couple..." he droned off at the end, not knowing where to go from here.

"Well its not like you're offering to tell your family about me either," she said, defensively. Daphne knew so little about his personal life.

"We can't be a real couple if you're ashamed of me!"

"How the bloody hell did this become about me? You're the pureblood unwilling to chance dating someone unpure... and I have... told him.. told my father," he stumbled, embarrassed, at the end.

Daphne opened her mouth to argue. But she quickly stopped herself. Her entire face fell.

"You...you did?" she asked, her voice soft and hopeful. It was touching. "About who I am?"

In a way, it sounded like Daphne was ashamed. But not about Terry. She was almost ashamed of who she was, where she came from.
