Harriet did get an awesome death though, and I'm glad she got to be awesome again (I didn't like her being deposed through Doctor-snark about her looks in the Christmas special *pouts*)
SJA is really good - I think, anyway ^^ and I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on Torchwood.
I'd recommend finding a Whovian friend/Intarwebz person and asking them for suggestions as to watch episodes to view - like you said, it's such a massive canon! That's what lycoris has been doing for me. As a random shout-out, Horror at Fang Rock is one I remember I liked a lot.
