It sounds like it was a great weekend! I'm jealous. *g*

The Sure Thing? Classic movie. "It's the age of Aquarius, the age of Aquariuuuus..." Daphne Zuniga is the female lead. I love John Cusack. Um, have I mentioned that you should see Better Off Dead? Yeah, I think I may have. :)

I LOVE traveling by train. My favorite mode of transportation by a long shot. I actually have trouble reading though since I just want to listen to music and look at the scenery.

I know I have another post to respond to earlier but I'm still embarrassed about the mega one earlier...think I'll stop here before I pull a repeat. *g* Glad to hear that your back and that things are going so well though! I need to soak up your happy vibes since I'm running a little low myself. :)

I'm gonna just reply to this one at the moment. I will get to the big post, but I'm feeling like a wimp at the moment. *g*

You may have mentioned Better Off Dead before, but I'd since forgotten, so thanks for the reminder. *g* My DVD rental places (both my online one *and* my local one seem to have something against John Hughes, so I'm not able to get most of your classics to watch yet. :) Ok, do you like Cusack best now, or back when he looked all young in The Sure Thing. These are important questions! *g*

I read about your sucky day at the Beta. *hugs* and *happy vibes*! Loads of them. :) I hope today was a lot better!

When you come to the UK (notice then 'when' *g*), you'll have to come to the Bronzer meets! :)

Don't worry about responding to the mega post. It is too much, sorry!

You clearly need to get a new DVD rental place. They don't like John Hughes' movies?! Blasphemy! How about The Princess Bride? If they don't have that either, we have a serious problem on our hands. *g*

Thank you very much for the hugs and happy vibes. It is amazing how much that improved my mood. :) Yesterday and today have both been much better though today I found out that I very likely won't get the job I interviewed for. At this point it is just a relief to know one way or the other. Depressing but a relief. Oh well.

I can't tell you how much I wish I was in the UK or Italy right now. Next time I'm in the UK(I'll be positive about it too! :), I'd love to go to a Bronzer meet. Oh dear, the wanderlust is creeping over me again. I'll have to live vicariously though your plans for next summer. :)

Don't be silly. :p There's no such thing as 'too much' of your posts. *g*

Yup, in fact, I think I've now discovered that my DVD rental place has a thing against the 80s. Can you believe that?! When I've seen a bunch of movies from it, and if my suggestions don't get taken on board, I will find another one. Thankfully, The Princess Bride is one there, and should be on its way to me soon, as should Cinema Paradiso. So at least some of your recommendations are on there! *g* In the meantime, when I go back to university I'm going to try to find out if my uni has a film studies department, and if so, I'll try and sneak into their DVD library each day to watch movies that I can't get otherwise. Knowing my luck there won't even be a film department. (After two years at a university I really should know this sort of thing!)

I suppose it is better to know early whether you will or won't get a job, but as you say, that's still a shame. :( Their loss! Are there any other jobs around that you're interested in doing? Best of luck ( ... )

You spoke with Kaymyth? She didn't until Saturday night know that you had joined the famlet, but she approved (obviously we already knew that though *g*). Where have you been anyway?

Guess where I have been (aside from the weekend away as mentioned in my entry). Yup, you guessed it - work. I work, and then I sleep, and then wake up for work again. Unless I have a day off, in which case substitute 'work' with 'go to the cinema' and it's pretty much accurate.

Thanks! And I'm happy that Kaymyth approved of having me as a siblet. I hope I won't be as annoying a brolet as I am a real life brothers. *g*

Hope to get to chat to you soon!

You can't even get in a little net time before work? I don't believe that, and you aren't even half-annoying.

You and I must have similar movie tastes. *g*

I also thought American Wedding blew. Hard. I haven't been able to find many people (besides the critics) who agree with me.

My problem was with the cinematography and the direction. The movie was so poorly lit I would be embarassed if I were the cinematographer. And the director did the stupidest things with the camera. Which I will not go into now because I'm tired. *g*

And Family Guy rocks. Good for you that you have been converted.

Can you go into them now? *g*

I'm usually pretty hopeless at noticing whether the direction is good or bad. Only some really exceptionally lit movies like Road To Perdition jump out at me. I usually, with a few exceptions, decide whether I liked the directing based on whether I liked the movie. :) I am interested to try and learn more about it though. What was wrong with the American Wedding direction?

Thanks for the praise on my convertion. *g*

Well, you caught me tired again, so I'll tell you the one I remember off the top fo my head.

There's a scene where Michelle and her sister are talking in a public bathroom. The camera is in closeup of them, then, for no reason, swings to the mirror while they're still talking so we can see just their reflections, then swings back to them.

I was like, "What the fuck???" It was a completely unnecessary piece of camera work that added absolutely nothing to the scene. A straight on closeup would have worked better.

Yay! You liked Chariots of Fire. I'm glad. I think I actually liked it that the two main characters never really interacted, because that would've made it a story about their competition with each other, or about their relationship to each other, and it really wasn't. It was never about who wins the big race, except in Abrahams' mind. And the fact that he lost, but not to Liddell, made it that much more of a statement of his personal weakness compared to Liddell's strength. It was comparing the two, but not in such a way that they ever had to meet. Parallel paths, but not intersecting. And thusly, more interesting than your average movie, which would've had the final showdown race be between them. Just my not-so-humble opinion. *g*

But the music is awesome, no? When I visited St. Andrews, I ran along the beach and listened to it. It was awesome.

*envy* at the Bronzer meetage. I've now read three accounts of it, at least, and I am sooooo envious. Sounds like you guys had a total blast.

Come to the UK. *g*

You're right. Having them race at the end would have been following a long and worn out formula. It's just having followed their stories in one single movie, it felt a bit strange to then leave their stories without bringing them together somehow. Thematically, it worked (though I must confess to liking Abrahams a lot more than Liddell), but I think the way the movie progressed made me think that they would have their stories tied together, without following up on it.

Actually one of the things I liked most about it was that it wasn't clearly 'about' anything. All the themes in it, racial prejudice, religion, doing what you think is right instead of what everyone else wants you to do, were all there for us to get something from, without having to. What I might be *g* trying to say is that I never once felt like I *must* agree with Liddell's stance, or with Abraham's feeling of being an outcast, etc., which was refreshing ( ... )

The Sure Thing is a fab film and John C does indeed rock and, in fact, boulder!! I hope you have seen Crosse Point Blank, because it's a gem! Pushing Tin has a lot going for it too ( ... )

I haven't seen Grosse Point Blank actually. I tried watching it a couple of years ago just because there was a BtVS actor in it, but was nackered and fell asleep. I'll give it another go some time. :)

A lot of my friends liked Stressed Eric too. That was another of many that I didn't give a chance. *g* I've only seen a couple of South Park episodes, but I thought the film was outstanding. Maybe because it was new and fresh to me, where as it was retreading ground to viewers who had already watched the show.

I don't like The Simpsons because... this is gonna seem a bit obvious *g*... I don't think it's funny. I've seen about 10 episodes now, and laughed maybe 3 times over the total. Also, the voices *really* get on my nerves.

LOL, I'm not a big anime fan either. :) I did get into Dragonball Z once, while still mocking it, and Pokemon has spanned off into so many great things. *g* Ok, I'll stop now before I admit to being a Pokemon fan. *g*

The Sure Thing is a great movie and I've got to agree with Lady Eleanor about Grosse Pointe Blank, one of my all-time top ten movies (well, if not exactly not top ten, at least near it.) :0) Saw a previous entry you made about Shakespeare in Love. I thought it was fantastic, so many levels to it; the romance between Shakespeare and the Gwynneth Paltrow character, how it interacted with his writing of the play and the actual performance of the play. It aroused so many emotions in me; sadness, love, joy. A truly amazing film...
